I cannot get food out of my fridge when you press open it just does not work could someone respond and help me?

Not completely sure, but you could try using your cellphone to call services (it should be available) then call a repair man because I think it might be broken.
OR
You mean like out of the fridge and into your inventory? If it's that, then select your food and press A
OR
If you want to eat then press "Have a Quick Meal" or "Make"

if you have a brown fridge then it will stop working it happens to everyone

Wouldnt work for me either, ended up having to sell my house fully furnished and buy a new one. Then the fridge works fine.

Dont click on open if you want your sim to eat click on quick meal or make but to make food you must have a work surface and a micro wave and a cooking oven.but if you have not bought anything from the shop then it wont open.I think I know what you mean though.you can't take food out when you click on open you use it when you doing your recipe.
