Mostly you can't get a boss but you want it really much. He always got some minions and mostly those are the small versions of him (like staravia is a minion of staraptor), if you befriended at least v5 of his minions finish the course(or die) and go to the release kiosk. Then release 5 of those minions and you get a ticket for their evolution (if the Pokemon hasn't got an evolution you get a ticket for the pro-evolution, so if you release 5 staraptors you get a ticket for starly)
