Usually, when you have to wait four years for a sequel to ANYTHING, it is garunteed something really really good or something really really bad. Kingdom Hearts II was not a dissapointment to this formula. KHII is an awesome game, easily outclassing the original. Final Fantasy XII on the other hand greatly dissapointed me by being a good game. How the @#%$ did that happen?
In short, these are most likely the best graphic you will be able to squeeze out of a dying console known as the PS2. Even though the pixels are often visible on the out lines of just about anything in any cutscene in the the game, you must keep in mind that this is the Playstation 2, and is doing it's best to please the ungrateful pllayer. The opening and ending cutscenes are better than most most animated feature film quality. Why, you may ask? Because Square Enix got bored changing it's name every two years and decided to spend it's money on something that will actually make money. While the graphics are the best quality that the Xbox never saw, if you haven't played Chain of Memories, then during the opening cutscene you will be 100% confused. Who is that guy with long frilly pink hair with a flower scythe? Who cares? Next time Square Enix, don't lose your fans before they actually get to play the game.
What can I say about the sounds... Why are they so %!$#ing good?!? Why do I hear those things, what are they called... Oh yeah, footsteps? Why do I hear Sora's keyblade ring jingle when he runs? Why do the voice actors do so frackin' good? Will I ever use a sentence without the word good? I said that I wouldn't give this game a 100 but it has been perfect so far.
I probably haven't played a game that plays perfectly ever. I probably never will. I do know that Kingdom Hearts II gets ten little bars on the how-good-is-it-meter because all of the little menus that work so well. AP can be frustrating but that's not got anything to with the actual gameplay in this game so I'm going to let that slide. One thing that I can bag on though is the little items menu. IT HATES ME. On some of the battles in this game, you will be forced to play only as one character. In these battles, you will be low on health, pull up your menu, select a potion, and then it will ask you which party member to give it to. What? Hello, I'm kinda the only one here. Please just give me my potion, I'm literally fight 1000 heartless. I want my effing potion!
This game last an Extreemely long time, on multiple levels. This game is about as long as your average RPG at thirty hours give or take. Throw in a few sidequest, dozens of mini-games, trying to get all of your drives and your regualar characters to the highest level is gruelingly long on all fronts. All of them. The only reason that you won't want to replay it is because at some points of the story, a boss, level, or event is so tedious that you want to cut yourself.
This game is freacking awesome. I cannot believe I gave a game such a high score, I mean this is overall a great game. The improved graphics, gummiship(thank God!), more explored characters(when the heck did Kairi get a keyblade?), and overall better game gets KHII a perfect 10 outta 10.
Final Score: 98%
