On the Playstation Network, to do split-screen matches against the AI, just go to combat training and have a second controller turned on. All you have to do then is press X button and the other controller will be able to play.
Just make sure you have plenty of BOTs to play against by going into game options.
You can have BOTs in offline split screen, but you have to have downloaded the latest updates for it. Then you just enter split screen, and choose either Team Deathmatch or Free For All and then enter Game Options and choose. You cannot play against bots in objective based games.
