You must play online to rank up and once you reach rank 4 you can then create your on weapon classes.

Creating a class is only activated in only play, I assume you want to play split screen with your friend and you do not want to use the pre made classes that they give you right? Well sorry to say you can only use your made classes online and the same goes for the rank up. Get kills and win is pretty much the basic means of ranking up
