There are two dead pools one before you fight subzero and one after you fight goro
The first one is where raiden throws his staff into the pool knock the knights into the pool and then you can move on the next one is where you his the putrid zombies on the 5 hooks you can throw them or use launch to hit them on.

The dead pool is what you use to kill the Zombies that attack you.
