Do you play as Solid Snake or Big Boss?

You play as BIG BOSS HIMSELF!!! I know becausean interveiw with Mr.Kojima and when they gave out those mgs3 calendar year planners or something to the journalist.

There was a hidden message on it telling you that you play as BIG BOSS!!!

I think you play as bigboss but in a trailer I saw they called him snake but there is no way he could have lived then he would have been at least 60 years old, by the first mgs.

So I think big boss was in foxhound and his old codename was snake if you want to see it go to www.konamijpn.com.

Click on english then click on metal gear solid sereis then scroll down and there will a bunch of stuff on mgs.

Click on mgs3 then click on video clips its the first clip it's in japanese but I think you will enjoy it

You do not play as Solid Snake. You are playing as none other than Big Boss. You may get confused because the Colonel calls him 'Snake'. Well actually, 'Snake' was his code name too. He wasn't a Solid or Liquid...just Snake. Hope I helped.

It is definately Big Boss you'll know in the end cinematics where he has a eye patch.

And for you confused people out there it isn't the snake that your thinking about. The character is called NAKED SNAKE NOT SOLID SNAKE. Plus you didn't see the ending so you think its snake in the beginning because he doesn't have an eye patch, right???

Technically you are playing as Big Boss, proof of this is in the original metal gear solid game manual where it shows Big Boss' picture and he has a right eye patch.

You play as big boss, you learn this once you beat the game.

You play as big boss because does anyone remember in one of the metal gear game they show a video of big boss.There is a patch right over his eye so this metal gear is telling you about big boss and what hapen to him.

You play as Solid Snake.

You play as big boss, ecause at the end you get the title 'Big Boss', you don't play as solid snake, otherwise Snake would be 80 years ld in metalgear solid 2!!!!!!

Okay, I just wanted to know...because I'm kind of confused. Snake, in Metal Gear Solid 3 gets his eye messed up and he gets a patch. And in Metal Gear Solid 2 he doesn't have one. If metal gear 3 is a prequal to number 2, then where is his hurt eye????

This confused me for a long time too, because I didn't ...think...or something?
MGS 1 & 2 are both played as solid snake.
MGS 3 is played by big boss.
Remember in the beginning of MGS 1.
"The members of FOXHOUND want the remains of BIG BOSS."
Thats Because in older games (Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake) Solid Snake's Commander (Big Boss) defected to the bad guys and Solid was forced to kill him...Even though apparently he didn't.

You play as big boss. At the end of the game there's a timeline and it says that the sons of big boss are born in the 1970's. You also learn that you play mgs just before the fist fight with solid snake's brother liquid, who are two of the three sons of big boss. The third one is solidus. Who we first meet in sons of liberty.
