You'll find Ames in the shell 1 core. After you meet with Olga dressed as the ninja get the aks-74u in strut F and go to the shell 1 core. You will find ames on B1 but before you go there you will need to go to B2 and get the directional microphone. There is a sentry which stops in front of the scanner eventually it's easier if you wait until then to grab him. When you in the room you'll will need to use the directional microphone to find him, Ames where's a pacemaker so you will hear it with the microphone. Instead of searching every hostage there are other things that set Ames apart from the rest he has longer hair than everyone else. Where Ames will be in the room depends on the difficulty you are playing but you will usually find him on the left side of the room near the stage.

I have a trick.
1.Go to strut F and get a magzine
2.Go inside Ame's room
3.Find the table that has a Apple
4.Place book near that table
5.use M9 to shoot that apple and the soldier will come
6.Then he will see the book and look at it
7.then you can find Ame easier

well, since ames has the same character model every time, just recognize him from a picture online. kinda cheap but it works XD
