This setting will allow you to make some changes on how your PS3 plays old Playstation and PS2 games.

Notes

Some Playstation and Playstation 2 titles may perform differently on the PS3 than they do on their original platforms. Some of them may not play at all. If you encounter such issues, your best bet is to buy the PS3-ported title from the Playstation Network

Playstation 2 discs may not be playable on some PS3 systems. Refer to this article for more information.

Scaled images may look rough. You may want to enable PS - Smoothing to alleviate this issue.

PS Upscaling

Upscaling is a method that enables video content recorded in SD (standard definition, NTSC: 480p / 480i, PAL: 576p / 576i) format to be played in HD resolution (high definition, 1080p / 1080i / 720p) Since PS and PS2 content are recorded in SD format, you can achieve a higher resolution by enabling this option.

The PS3 should be connected to an HD-ready TV or monitor through HDMI or component AV cable.

The PS3 output display should be set to 1080p, 1080i, or 720p.

If the image quality looks worse or doesn’t look right after upscaling, turn off the option.

This option is displayed as “PS/ PS2 – Upscaler” on some models.

How to Change

From your XMB Menu, select Settings

Select Game Settings then PS Upscaler

Select the appropriate option.

Off	Disable upscaled display
Normal	Upscale the display to fit the matching screen size
Full Screen	Display at full screen by stretching and changing the proportions of the image.
