Leopards and Jaguars

Every time I adopt leopard (black, clouded, ordinary or snow leopard) or jaguar, they are not happy even when their exhibits are well constructed and their hunger needs satisfied... What's wrong with them?

Those cats need cat climbing trees. If they don't have one they become unhappy.

I've had that problem in the past, too. I just don't get the snow leopards that often. I think it's some type of glitch, because sometimes it's easy to get them happy, and other times they don't get happy even if you cater to their every need (sometimes a problem b/c don't know what they want.)
I'd just leave it alone for awhile, and maybe you've just got an unhappy pair of cats or you didn't put the exhibit in "the right place". Big Cats are PICKY!!!!

I've found that the highland leopard (snow) isn't happy until you've put Himalayan pines in. Other leopards won't be happy unless you have the cat climbing tree toy in there. You just have to find the things that are just right

I tried every leopard, but even when the zoo keeper said they had no unmeet needs, they were still upset. Try (with the black leopards) putting rocks in until they only have red faces coming up. I did that with two new ones (I replaced the old ones) and they got to 100% happiness. If that doesn't work, try adding more foriage or something even if the zoo keeper doesn't say to. It just might work. If not, it is worth a shot. It worked so far with me.

You add everything they want until the red faces show up and ignore the guide if he says there's too many toys or shelters

With the snow leopards the exhibit needs to be reasonable size and try putting the small rocks around the edges of the exhibit not the snowy ones

The key to making the leopards happy: First, move the cursor over the leopard before you buy it and see the kind of foliage it prefers. Second, set the exhibit to all the zoo keeper's suggestions. Add foliage until the red frowning face pops up from the leopards and do the same with the rocks. Third, make sure the leopard has a mate. If it is still upset, I sometimes find that it works to expand the exhibit and add more leopards in pairs of two (male and female). (This trick works for more than the leopards, try it on any unhappy animal). I also found that the clouded leopard is the easiest to please.

Also, another thing is to sell the original leopards you started with because after they are mad, it is almost impossible to get them happy again. Get the exhibit suitability into the green with the original pair, then sell them. Replace them with a set of 2 new leopards that are mates and usually (if the exhibit suitability is in the GREEN) , they will be happy and you won't have any more problems. The leopards are VERY exhibit suitability sensitive.

Leopards in zoo tycoon are solitary animals, and prefer not to be overcrowded by guests. Try using fencing in which guests cannot see through, and only make a small portion of the fencing windowed. This makes sure that the cats arent seeing so many people, and raises their happiness.

Jaguars and the four leopard types available in Zoo Tycoon tend to need exhibits that match their preferences to a T, though there is wiggle room.

-Jaguars prefer kapok trees, but as long as their favorite tree is part of the equation enjoy ulmo and Llala palms.

-Snow leopards (like any highland animal) prefer a rather rugged enclosure. They prefer Himalayan pines and birches, and do especially well once you research the snowy rock cave.

-Your typical African leopard loves baobob trees alongside other savanna foliage from Africa. They enjoy a mix of rainforest and savanna terrain and while they don't necessarily need climbing trees, you won't get 100% suitability without a couple.

-Both clouded leopards and black leopards enjoy a exhibit with plenty of foliage from the jungles of Southeast Asia, with considerably more rocks than tigers want. They can be exhibited together without problems, though clouded leopards prefer more grass terrain, while black leopards like a bit of dirt in their exhibits.

On exhibit size, all of the cats mentioned above besides he black leopard need 35 squares per adult. Black leopards need 20.
