You should be able to delete an existing game by holding the Up Button, Select Button, and B Button at the same time on the Game's Menu. After this, you should be able to save a new game.

IM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM ON MY DSI XL I KEEP PRESSING up,select and b at the same time and it just takes me back to start screen.
