What do you do when you beat your rival at the indigo plato, beat the Johnto Leage again, go to Professor Elms lab, and talk to his assistant?Where does your rival go?

Did you go to Kanto? Go to the ship in Olivine and then get the 8 Kanto badges. Then you can fight the (stronger) elite four. If you already did that, Red is at the peak of Mt. Silver.

Go to Kanto and gain the 8 badges from there. After that challenge the Elite Four again. This time they will be stronger. I think your rival will challenge you one more time, although I am not sure.
After getting the 16 badges and winning the 2nd Elite 4, you get to choose a Kanto and Hoenn starter already.

He's in the dragons den, go down and then surf straight until you get to a platform. Your rival will be standing there and you do a double battle with him against Clair and Lance. After that you can see him some days in the dragons den, but he does'nt battle you, just talks to you. You can battle him on mondays in the indigo plateau, just go up like you're about to battle the elite four, but halfway there you get an exclamation mark above your head and he will battle you.
