No, but there are animals in the game that are dogs though, like KK Slider.

You cannot get a dog and I don't know were you heard that. You can get dogs for neigbours though like Walker (Walker is a sick dude). And as EspeonDude_ said K.K. Slider is a dog!!!

No, you can't get a dog in AC. You can have fish as pets though- and Bugs. Try putting a goldfish on your table.... It's in a cute little bowl!

Sorry you cannot get a dog as an actual pet on animal crossing wild world but you can get a pet fish to keep in your house and pet Bugs, to do this, catch a bug/fish and enter your house then open your pockets menu and select the fish/bug and select place in room. (you can place it on the floor or on a desk of some sort) I hope I helped you.

You can get a dog kennel which, if you put it in your room and press [A] while standing infront of it, two red eyes will glow in it for a few seconds. You can buy this from Tom Nook's Store.
