its called Critical Capture. Once you throw the ball its caught in midair with one shake. To trigger this effect it you need to catch pokemon. 600+ pokemon=75% Crit Cap.

This can be activated by a well-timed press of the a button before the pokeball closes in mid-air. As others have said, you can still have a failure even if you succeed in activating it, but your chances are still increased quite a bit. I've done it repetitively recently.

Critical Capture

A totally new mechanic of capture is the Critical Capture. This feature works like Critical Hits in battle where there is a slight chance that this feature occurs. Critical Capture will be noticed when you throw the PokÃ©ball. It'll pause in mid-air and make a metal noise. When it hits the PokÃ©mon, it will shake once and capture. This cuts two of the four random calculations out of the overal capture mechanic making it more likely to capture the PokÃ©mon. However, it can still fail.

The calculation is done by a simple factor depending upon the amount of PokÃ©mon species you have captured. It will run this calculation based upon the capture value calculated above and will then have another random number based upon the PokÃ©mon you have captured.

Critical Capture = floor((255,CatchValue) * Multiplier)
The multipliers are as follows;

600+ 2.5
450-599 2
300-449 1.5
150-299 1
30-149 0.5
0-29 0

Critical catches are absolutely real.
I got Reshiram in a Premier Ball on my 2nd thro.
The ball only shook once so I was pretty amazed. Hence why I'm here now..

This crit catch can happen, but it is rare. There is a different sound when the ball is thrown (almsot like a small airplane just flew through) and it will catch with one or no struggle animations.

Playing black and was catching "trade trash" pokemon when I noticed it officially. It's happened before on others but never really payed that much attention to it til now.

Again, it is a rare thing and you can tell it's happening by the throw sound. If you go to route 1, false swipe the pokemon and then use an Ultra Ball, it seems to happen more often. There may be a ratio between the HP of the pokemon, ball type, and the pokemon's catch ratio that determines the Crit Catch ratio.

well when i caught Kyurem the same method of "the ball wiggling in the air the wiggling once and snapping" happened and i have a level 75 Kyurem to show for it. And this just happened yesterday.

completely true, i was skeptical before but i just caught a frillish with a critical catch (a total waste right?) i wasnt paying attention and the only way i noticed was the different sound effect when the ball was thrown and the fact that the ball only moved once. i dont lie people this is all completely true, it just happened 5 mins ago

Its pretty cool. Its already decided wether its gonna be a crit. Or not. When you first throw it it whistles through the air at a noticibly higher pitch. Hittting buttons after that doesnt matter

this is true while i was playing pokemon black i dont know but i pressed a after waiting for the pokeball to throw and it made like a 8 bit shooting star sound and when it captured the pokemon in midair it shook once and then it hit the ground and shook again then clicked so this is not a rumor it is true at first i was like wtf what was that then i tryed over and over again relizing that it was a super catch move it helps alot

I was having a really hard time catching a Lv 8 Munna with a Lv 68 Zekrom (I know hard to believe, but it's true). Whenever I threw Ultra Balls at it, it didn't even wiggle once. Then I decided to press A rapidly while trying to catch it, and voilla! The Ultra Ball wiggled in the air and dropped onto Munna. The ball wiggled once more and clicked *caught*! I don't care if you don't believe me, but it's true.

It always happens to me if i use a premier ball, and then press "a" as soon as the pokemon goes into the ball, but before it closes. Catches it 100% of the time.

Not always 100% catch rate. Actually, I tried catching a Dragonight and I got that (it's called a critical catch, btw) and it still popped out of the pokéball! I was like, wtf man?
