Mario Kart 7 Wiki

Introduction

Mario Kart 7 is currently the latest title for the Mario Kart Series. Released December 1, 2011, Mario Kart 7 is still one of the biggest and most popular Mario Kart titles played on Nintendo WFC. Mario Kart 7 features many new racing aspects that weren't included in previous titles, and brings back some old aspects. Gliding, Underwater racing, and 1 lap sectional races are among the new aspects. Customizable karts was most likely the largest aspect many would come to love, allowing you to customize a kart to whatever stat set or look you want. Coin collecting has been brought back from Mario Kart Super Circuit and increases your top speed upon reaching 10 coins, but you lose them if hit with items or fall off the track. Various game modes such as Time Trial and Battle are there, but VS. has been taken off Single Player mode, and is only playable on Multi-player.

This game can use Streetpass and Spotpass with your 3DS, as well as the Mic and Gyro sensor. This game is incompatible with the Circle Pad Pro accessory. With Streetpass you can collect player data and stats, challenge their latest time trial or custom Grand Prix. Sometimes you'll run across the player in a Grand Prix or Battle (Single player only). With Spotpass you'll recieve data such as Time Trial data (4 races cycling daily) and Community recommendations every now and then. The Mic can be used to blow up balloons in Balloon Battle and the Gyro can be used in First Person Mode to steer with your 3DS rather than with the Circle Pad. This is also the only method to getting the Steering wheel/Golden Steering wheel rank. If you do a time trial in First Person mode, there will be a steering wheel icon by your time.

In Nintendo WFC, you can play Worldwide, Battle or in Communities. Communities is a new mode for Mario kart online and features player created communities with specific races, items, rules, and speed class. Community codes can be shared to allow people to join that specific one. Points earned don't go towards your VR, however, but towards your standing in that Community alone. In Worldwide you can join a friend's race just like in Mario Kart Wii. A Race flag icon will be by the player currently playing online. You can also challenge players you recently raced against. Same applies to Battle Mode.

There are 16 Mario characters and your Mii character, making 17 total. The weight classes determine the size of your kart and your stats. There are 2 featherweight, 2 light, 2 cruiser, 3 medium, and 3 heavy characters, each set having different stats and sized karts. There are many different karts, tires, and gliders to choose from as well. Instead of being unlocked by getting gold trophies, they're unlocked based on the number of coins you've earned total, up to 10 in each race. The amount needed towards your next unlock increases marginally to substantially with each unlock, and are unlocked at random. Some unlocks are unlocked at a set number of coins, such as the Beast Glider, and the Gold Kart Set.

In summary, Mario Kart 7 is a very fun game full of replay value and with a ton of fun races that'll both amaze you and bring back nostalgia. This game is also available on Nintendo's e-shop so be sure to grab it for some high-speed racing.
