Go to the edge of the Earth and dig down. After a little bit of digging (20-30 blocks) make a big area around yourself and you normally find a bunch of major ores.

If you want to make a furnace you need to find regular stone, for example in a mountain. Then you get a pick axe, a wooden one will do mine the regular stone and it will give you cobblestone. Collect the cobblestone. You will need 8 blocks. Now go to your crafting table and create your furnace!
(for mine craft PE)

You need to go to the edge of earth and dig down really deep. Be careful getting out of your hole, though.

Go to the edge of the map. Go all the way down to the bottom of the map till you get to obsidian (the black, white and gray block that you can't mine) and build 3 blocks up and dig all around. U can usually find ore.

These guys are noobs even the one with how to get it. It's not called obsidian its bedrock, idiots, First break a tree, got to your inventory turn the logs into wood and then wood into crafting table after this you need at least 12 wooden planks. Make 4 sticks (needs 2 wood) then make a wooden pickaxe. Go find and dig stone ( found underground and on the sides of mountains) After you dig the stone ( get 11) you should get cobblestone and go back to your crafting table and make a stone pickaxe. Dig underground about 10-50 blocks now dig around and you should find stone with beige/brown spots in it. ( iron ore). Now mine it with your stone pickaxe. Take as much iron ore as you want and come back to your crafting table and make a furnace put the furnace down and put iron in the top and fuel (coal or wood) in the bottom after this you should get iron ingots Usng this you can make strong iron tools and iron armor.

Obsidian isn't the grey black and white stone, obsidian is the black one that only diamond pickaxe to brake. You use it to go to nether.

Grey black is bedrock and you need water and lava
To make obsidian
And you do need a diamond pickaxe

Keep on mining until you find iron ores. Mine the iron ores... YOU DON'T SAY!? I'm having trouble finding the iron ores, can you be more specific? Like how far deep, until you hit a specific mineral? Those kinds of things.
Guest answered: Added 14th Oct 2013, ID #605546
I agree with you guys on both things. All I found was cobblestone( I just turned that into regular stone ) and you have to dig about 10 blocks deep. Remember to dig side to side and diagonal too because it might not always be in front of you.
I have only found it once on creative mode.

All you gotta do is find a flat land and dig all the way down tillyou get to bedrock. Dig around you to see if there's anything there and if there isn't go back up.
Guest answered: Added 18th Jun 2014, ID #628950
Iron ore is what you need
Then you melt it down then you have a iron ingot
