For some reason it won't let me get iron why is that???

Use a wood pickaxe if you're beginning to play in survival.Guest answered:
First, gather at least five pieces of wood, or so. Make sure you have the right amount of sticks, and get the pickaxe. Then, go to cobblestone or stone and mine that. Get about five pieces of that as well. Get your sticks and you should have a stone pickaxe. Then you can start Mining diamond.
