In case you don't already know, in this sequel of the Pokemon series, there are special abilities that all Pokemon know naturally when you obtain them. The Pokemon will use them automatically in battle or in-game when the time is appropriate, just like they would with berries. That would be all that this FAQ covers. In the next section, you'll find the full list of abilities, along with who can learn each of them. Name - Air Lock Description - Prevents Pokemon from being affected by weather during battle. Known By - Rayquaza Name - Arena Trap Description - Prevents the opponent from switching Pokemon or running away, but it doesn't have an effect on flying-types or Pokemon that have the Levitate ability. Known By - Trapinch Name - Battle Armor Description - Helps the Pokemon avoid critical hits. Known By - Anorith, Armaldo Name - Blaze Description - This multiplies the power of the Pokemon's fire-type attacks by x1.5 when the user's HP is below a third of its total. Known By - Torchic, Combusken, Blaziken Name - Chlorophyll Description - This doubles a Pokemon's speed when the sunlight is strong. Known By - Tropius, Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume, Seedot, Nuzleaf, Shiftry Name - Clear Body Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to stat-lowering moves used by opponents. Known By - Nincada Name - Cute Charm Description - Every time a physical attack (one that strikes the opponent) is used, there is a 30% chance that the opponent becomes attracted. Known By - Skitty, Delcatty, Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff Name - Damp Description - Prevents the use of Selfdestruct or Explosion by any Pokemon. Known By - Psyduck, Golduck Name - Drizzle Description - Changes the weather to rain for the remander of the battle, unless a different weather effect move is used. Known By - Kyogre Name - Drought Description - Changes the weather to sunlight for the remander of the battle, unless a different weather effect move is used. Known By - Groudon Name - Early Bird Description - When the Pokemon falls asleep, they are more likely to wake up quicker than normally. Known By - Seedot, Nuzleaf, Shiftry, Natu, Xatu, Doduo, Dodrio, Girafarig Name - Effect Spore Description - Every time a physical attack (one that strikes the opponent) is used, there is a 10% chance that the opponent becomes poisoned, paralyzed, or falls asleep. Known By - Shroomish, Breloom Name - Flame Body Description - Every time a physical attack (one that strikes the opponent) is used, there is a 30% chance that the opponent becomes burned. Known By - Slugma, Magcargo Name - Flash Fire Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to fire-type attacks, and also boosts the power of their own. Known By - Vulpix, Ninetales Name - Forecast Description - Every time the weather changes, the Pokemon changes type. (Rain = Water, Sunlight = Fire, Hail = Ice) Known By - Castform Name - Guts Description - Multiplies the power of all attacks by x1.5 when it has a status condition. Known By - Taillow, Swellow, Machop, Machoke, Machamp, Makuhita, Hariyama, Heracross Name - Huge Power Description - Increases power of the Pokemon's attacks, but the effect is cut in half when abilities are swapped. The same thing as Pure Power. Known By - Azurill, Marill, Azumarill Name - Hustle Description - Multiplies the power of all attacks by x1.5, but accuracy goes down by 20%. Known By - Corsola Name - Hyper Cutter Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to attacks that reduce its attack power. Known By - Mawile, Trapinch, Corphish, Crawdaunt, Pinsir Name - Illuminate Description - Increases the chance of seeing a wild Pokemon when the Pokemon with this ability is in the lead position. Known By - Staryu, Starmie, Chinchou, Lanturn, Volbeat Name - Immunity Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to being poisoned. Known By - Zangoose Name - Inner Focus Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to flinching. Known By - Mightyena, Masquerain, Gyarados, Mawile, Salamence Name - Insomnia Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to falling asleep. The same as Vital Spirit. Known By - Crobat, Snorunt, Glalie, Girafirig Name - Intimidate Description - Automatically reduces the opponent's attack power. Known By - Shuppet, Banette Name - Keen Eye Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to attacks that reduce accuracy. Known By - Wingull, Pelipper, Sableye, Skarmory Name - Levitate Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to ground-type attacks (this is essentially the same thing as being a flying-type Pokemon). Known By - Koffing, Weezing, Flygon, Vibrava, Lunatone, Solrock, Baltoy, Claydol, Duskull, Latias, Latios, Chimecho Name - Lightningrod Description - In double battles when the opponent uses an electric attack, the Pokemon that knows this ability draws the electric attack away from its partner and always towards itself. Known By - Electrike, Manectric, Rhyhorn, Rhydon Name - Liquid Ooze Description - Causes damage to the opponent when they absorb your HP. Known By - Tentacool, Tentacruel, Gulpin, Swalot Name - Magma Armor Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to being frozen. Known By - Slugma, Macargo, Camerupt Name - Magnet Pull Description - Prevents the opponent from switching steel-type Pokemon or running away with them in battle. Known By - Nosepass, Magnemite, Magneton Name - Marvel Scale Description - This multiplies the Pokemon's defense by x1.5 when it has a status condition. Known By - Milotic Name - Minus Description - Multiplies Minun's special attack when Plusle is in battle. Known By - Minun Name - Natural Care Description - When a Pokemon is withdrawn by the trainer from a battle, any status conditions are automatically healed. Known By - Roselia, Staru, Starmie, Swablu, Altaria, Corsola Name - Oblivious Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to attraction. Known By - Illumise, Numel, Barboach, Whiscash Name - Overgrow Description - This multiplies the power of the Pokemon's grass-type attacks by x1.5 when the user's HP is below a third of its total. Known By - Treecko, Grovyle, Sceptile Name - Own Tempo Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to confusion. Known By - Spoink, Grumpig, Spinda Name - Pickup Description - Pokemon with this ability will randomly pick up items in-game and from opponent Pokemon in battle. Known By - Zigzagoon, Linoone, Phanpy Name - Plus Description - Multiplies Plusle's special attack when Minun is in battle. Known By - Plusle Name - Poison Point Description - Every time a physical attack (one that strikes the opponent) is used, there is a 30% chance that the opponent becomes poisoned. Known By - Roselia, Seadra Name - Pressure Description - Every time the opponent uses an attack, the PP of the attack goes down by two instead of one. Known By - Absol, Dusclops, Deoxys Name - Pure Power Description - Increases power of the Pokemon's attacks, but the effect is cut in half when abilities are swapped. The same thing as Huge Power. Known By - Meditite, Medicham Name - Rain Dish Description - While raining in battle, the Pokemon recovers HP. Known By - Lotad, Lombre, Ludicolo Name - Rock Head Description - Prevents recoil from actually effecting the Pokemon when moves like Take Down or Submission are used. Known By - Geodude, Graveler, Golem, Aron, Lairon, Aggron, Relicanth, Rhyhorn, Rhydon, Bagon, Shelgon Name - Rough Skin Description - When the opponentuses a physical attack (one that strikes the opponent) they take a bit of damage. Known By - Carvanha, Sharpedo Name - Run Away Description - If this Pokemon is in battle, you can always run away safely (except under certain conditions, of course). Known By - Poochyena, Doduo, Dodrio Name - Sand Stream Description - Changes the weather to a sandstorm for the remander of the battle, unless a different weather effect move is used. Known By - No Pokemon from Ruby and Sapphire knows this ability. Name - Sand Veil Description - Makes the Pokemon more evasive and harder to hit during sandstorms. Known By - Sandshrew, Sandslash, Cacnea, Cacturne Name - Serene Grace Description - The effects of attacks used by the Pokemon with this ability are more likely to happen with this ability. Known By - Jirachi Name - Shadow Tag Description - Prevents the opponent from switching Pokemon or running away, under any circumstances, making it better than Arena Trap. Known By - Wynaut, Wobuffet Name - Shed Skin Description - The Pokemon with this ability has a 30% chance of curing any status conditions every turn. Known By - Silcoon, Cascoon, Seviper Name - Shell Armor Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to critical hits. Known By - Corphish, Crawdaunt, Clamperl Name - Shield Dust Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to any additional effects of moves (an example would be Thunderbolt paralyzing the opponent 10% of the time). Known By - Wurmple, Dustox Name - Soundproof Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to moves that involve noise. These are Grasswhistle, Growl, Heal Bell, Hyper Voice, Metal Sound, Perish Song, Roar, Screech, Sing, Snore, Supersonic, and Uproar. Known By - Whismur, Loudred, Exploud, Voltorb, Electrode Name - Speed Boost Description - Increases the Pokemon's speed by one level every turn. Known By - Ninjask Name - Static Description - Every time a physical attack (one that strikes the opponent) is used, there is a 30% chance that the opponent becomes paralyzed. Known By - Pichu, Pikachu, Raichu, Electrike, Manectric, Voltorb, Electrode Name - Stench Description - Decreases the chance of seeing a wild Pokemon when the Pokemon with this ability is in the lead position. Known By - Grimer, Muk Name - Sticky Hold Description - Prevents items from being stolen from the Pokemon. Known By - Gulpin, Swalot, Grimer, Muk Name - Sturdy Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to one-hit KOs. Known By - Geodude, Graveler, Golem, Nosepass, Airon, Lairon, Aggron, Magnemite, Magneton, Skarmory, Donphan Name - Suction Cups Description - Prevents the Pokemon from being taken out of battle when Roar or Whirlwind are used. Known By - Lileep, Cradily Name - Swarm Description - This multiplies the power of the Pokemon's bug-type attacks by x1.5 when the user's HP is below a third of its total. Known By - Beautifily, Volbeat, Heracross Name - Swift Swim Description - Doubles the Pokemon's speed when it's raining. Known By - Lotad, Lombre, Ludicolo, Surskit, Goldeen, Seaking, Magikarp, Feebas, Huntail, Gorebyss, Relicanth, Luvdisc, Horsea, Kingdra Name - Synchronize Description - If the Pokemon is inflicted with a status condition, this ability will cause the opponent's Pokemon to be inflicted by the same one, too. Known By - Ralts, Kirlia, Gardevoir, Abra, Kadabra, Alakazam, Natu, Xatu Name - Thick Fat Description - Fire-type and ice-type attacks have only have the power they normally would when used on the Pokemon. Known By - Makuhita, Hariyama, Azurill, Marill, Azumarill, Spoink, Grumpig, Spheal, Sealeo, Walrein Name - Torrent Description - This multiplies the power of the Pokemon's water-type attacks by x1.5 when the user's HP is below a third of its total. Known By - Mudkip, Marshtomp, Swampert Name - Trace Description - The Pokemon gets a copy of opponent's ability. Known By - Ralts, Kirlia, Gardevoir Name - Truant Description - Useless and annoying, this causes the Pokemon with it to make a move only once every two turns. Known By - Slakoth, Slaking Name - Vital Spirit Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to falling asleep. The same as Insomnia. Known By - Vigoroth Name - Volt Absorb Description - Whe the Pokemon is hit by an electric-type attack, HP is restored. Essentially this means they are immune to electric attacks. Known By - Chinchou, Lantern Name - Water Veil Description - Makes the Pokemon immune to burns.
