The chao in the Tiny Chao Garden never get any older. So you have to evolve them in SA2B or Sonic Adventure DX.

You cannot make it any older, but you can teach it to fly and swim by feeding it certain fruit. (Some fruit lowers certain stats!) I am not sure what happens when you teach it to run, I'm still trying.
