Yes and No. Choose the ones you like. Learn to strategise. Give them good moves. Make them strong.

No. WHat you pick only affects how fast you will pokemon.

Ex: if you chose water, you beat fire, ground, rock and you suck against Grass,Electric

Or if you chose Ice, your good against Grass,Bug,Dragon, but suck against Fire, and rock I think

It depends on how you want your Pokemon to be like a grass Pokemon may be poweful againist ROCK,WATER for example.
