In Ruby and Sapphire there are three Pokemon you can choose from to start with at the beginning of the game. Those are Treecko, the grass type Pokemon, Torchic, the fire type, then finally Mudkip, the water type. Choosing the starter is really up to your opinion. Like for example, if your favorite type is fire, you could choose Torchic, and vice versa for each type. But I highly reccomend the water type, Mudkip. With Mudkip, and when trained good, it can fly right through the first few gyms. I chose Torchic when I first started, since fire is my fovorite. Once again, it's really all up to you. When you first start you team, I recommend you start with you starter, Zigzagoon, and Poochyena. Later in the game, you will find stronger Pokemon for your team.
