First you must breed two compatible pokemon...meaning a male and female with either the same type or group type....then if the old man say's..''Those two don't like each other''...you will get and egg but it may take time...if he say's..''Those two prefer to play with other pokemon''...you won't get an egg.

Pretty much simple..

Zelin answered:

Put to of the same poke'mon in the day care (boy&girl) and they willn have an egg of that poke'mon.

P.S Somtimes depending on the type your using they don't even have to be the same!

ShadowGX answered:

You have to make sure that their natures don't collide, you have to make sure they're relatively the same species, they should be about the same type too. Ditto can mate with anything, so that's a good one. You can't mate any Pokemon that don't have genders either.

You get a ditto. Then breed it with any Pokemon but legendaries.Like for pikacu then breed it with a ditto then you will get a pichu

annemarie_mew answered:

You have to have unlocked the Daycare on Island4 and breed two Pokemon of the oposite gender to get an egg that will hatch as you walk around.

OK, they basically gave you an overview, but not much help if you want to really carry on some moves or "reuse" TM's by passing them onto a baby. OK, Pokemon that have no genders-with the exception of Legendaries who CANNOT breed at all, even Latios and Latias-CAN be bred by using a Ditto. Whatever you breed with a Ditto will become a Ditto, so if you have a genderless Pokemon like Magnaton and want to get a Magnamite, breed him with a Ditto. If you breed 2 of the same Pokemon, you'll need to make sure they get along personality wise or it'll take forever to get an egg, and hatching it will be a little easier if they're both the same, or even better if they get along well and have different ID numbers, you use your Mach Bike while trying to hatch and put a Pokemon with Magna Armor like Magcargo in the lead, too. But, the real info is all about what Egg Type the Pokemon are-you can breed 2 Pokemon with different genders if they fall into the same egg group-there are like 16 of them-and possible get a move passed onto the baby it wouldn't normally have when hatched by one of 3 ways:If both parents have a higher level move like Flamethrower for example it may be passed on; If either parent has an Egg Move(a move a Pokemon can only get from breeding)it may be passed on; or if the Male Parent knows a HM or TM it could pass it along to the baby. So you could potentially create a Pokemon with unusual and/or strong moves when hatched at level 5. The female passes along the baby's ability and even Nature possibly if you have it hold an everstone(or Ditto can when using a Ditto and a male). You can get really creative if you look around for Pokedex info about Egg Moves and you have a list of all the Egg Groups and which Pokemon are in them-a Pokemon may be more than one type, too, so you know, but you can really breed up some interesting stuff if you do some research on things. Check out the Pokemon Walkthrough Sections here at SC, there's bound to be plenty about Pokedex info, and breeding, egg groups, etc.
Another thing...when you bring the 2 into the daycare, see what he says to you. If he says "They're very friendly"-it's the best, then "The two seem to get along" is somewhat likely, "The 2 don't seem to like each other" is pretty bad, but if it's all you have to work with you might wait and see for a while. If he says "The 2 prefer to play with other Pokemon" you might as well not bother and try different ones or if it's something else like "It's brimming with energy" you're trying to breed a parent and child which you cannot do, or if they have no interest they're the same sex, different egg groups, or possibly a legendary. There's a lot more to it, but this is a decent start. If you're really interested, just do your research or ask a specific question that won't require too much to answer. (Like "Who can I breed with my Male Blastoise with who can also get Hydro Pump so the baby can have it when it hatches?" would be relatively easy to answer) Good Luck and Happy Breeding! It's really not that hard, and having a few different Dittos so you can use the one that gets along best is helpful, too.
