Question for Pokemon FireRed

I have beaten the elite four, and gone to a pokemart and entered "link together with all" into the questionare. Suposedly all I have to do is save my game and use mystery gift on the starting menu to get mystery gifts(including a certain man in a green suit). I can get into "mystery gift", but it tells me that it can not find a wireless communication system(not a wireless adapter, I have one hooked up). What do I do, please help!

You need another person with the Wireless adapter and must have the same game or leafgreen version
