If you want to get a Pokemon, walk in the tall grass until you get a wild encounter. Battle the Pokemon being sure to reduce it's HP as far as you can without KO-ing it. Then use a Pokeball to catch it. Your chances go up if the HP is low and if the Pokemon has a status condition (sleep, poison, paralysis, etc.) Hope this helps.

You get Pokemon like any other Pokemon you weaken then you catch them with pokeballs.
