I did this on my copy of LeafGreen and a screen came up mentioning "Berry Program Update" with a dialogue of "The Berry Program on your Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire Game Pak will be updated. Press the A button." My copy of FireRed comes up with the clear all save areas screen.

I did it again on my LeafGreen and it worked as normal, maybe I hit a wrong key?

Just make a new one...Select New game and then save it again..simple

gba_dude answered:

You don't delete your old save file. If you want to start a new game then start a new game and then save. Note: all your other data from you previous save file will be deleted including all items collected and all Pokemon trained and caught.

EspeonDude_ answered:

I think the erase your file is at the main menu, press B and Select at the same time, if I recall correctly... But you can just start a new game and start over with it!

Deleting old saved game files on GBA - Most games after starting them - where you select which played game to start will show line at the bottom that says "Elimination Mode" - - - select the elimination mode and use select to chose which game file to erase and then press the start button - - - Poof - That saved file is GONE ! ! !
No need to go pressing all kinds of buttons right after starting the system !
