No need to fear, BBG_CREECAT is here! I can help you!!!
Don't blame your friend-it's not his fault. Your time ran out is all, berries won't grow anymore in your game and it cannot tell time any longer-they were programmed to stop after about a year or so of play (want to check?-your clock has probably stopped), but in any case if you want to fix it, link to someone with Emerald (or yourself since you put this in Emerald section but you need to have access to 2 GBA's and a link cable), and have them Press Select + B at same time when they get to Rayquazza screen-this is Berry Update!! Follow the easy step by step directions and use it to update your Sapphire, and your game should now go back to growing berries and having time. If not, your game is so old that the internal clock broke completely, and you can try to contact Nintendo to see how much to fix it, they can, but it may not be worth it, you'll need to ask them for details. This Berry Update can also be done when putting a Jirachi into your game with the Colosseum bonus disc, I have one, but they're pretty rare...
I hope the berry update will work for you, it does work though(I did this for an old student of mine's friend), that's why it's on there-I updated my R&S with the bonus disc that I bought used and have had for 2+ years with no problems yet-knock on wood.(I'm hoping I don't Jynx myself-LOL!) If you end up junking your game, don't until you can trade out your Pokemon-they're fine, it's just the game, and restarting won't help either if Berry Update won't. Best of luck to you!

There's a glitch in the game where after you play for a year the time based events stop, to fix this all you have to do is link to colloseum and the game should work again.

I've had the same problem myself.

You can also link to emerald but you have to do a button combination on the emerald start menu which I can't remember sorry.

Why would you lend your gameboy to someone else!?! I'll let my friends play it but never take with them I even make sure theyre playing the game right and not losing. Did you let him borrow the game too?!? I have no clue how to fix it.
