I don't think it's compatible to emerald! Not sure though. But if you want johto Pokemon you could trade from fire red or leafgreen.

You can't trade with old Pokemon game since the IV's of Pokemon red all the way to crystal and the Pokemon stadiums are 0 between 15 but the new Pokemon games ruby all the way to Pokemon diamond and pearl and Pokemon battle revolution(new game coming out for DS and nintendo Wii) the IV's are between 0 and 31 for more Pokemon transfering. No. You can't connect to Pokemon R/B/Y or G/S/C from any of the Advanced generation games. To get your hands on the older Pokemon, trade with FireRed or LeafGreen

Nope only saphire ruby fire red leaf green and another emerald and for the emerald fire red and leaf green lnk up you (can) use a wireless adapter but a gba link will do just fine but you cannot chat with cable
