Recover the Scanner in the Abandoned Ship and Captain Stern will give you either one.

You need to get the scanner on the abandoned ship then give it to Capt.Stern and he will give you a deepseatooth or a deepseascale.

After you get dive, you can go to the abandoned ship while coming form dewford to slateport. Go inside one of the cabins in the ship, and you can use dive to go into a different room, and in one of the rooms, you will find a scanner. Go give the scanner to Capt. Stern, and he'll give you a choice between the deepseascale and the deepseatooth. You can only choose one.

There is a abandoned ship east of dewford on route 108. Inside the ship there is a room with a small pool.Use surf and then dive into the pool. On the other side you will find an object that you need to give to the captain in the Slateport boat garage (Captain Stern) if I remember right.You will be able to choose which 1 you one want (tooth or scale).Speak to the captain's asstant on the ship before you leave.I am sorry but I do not know how to get both.

You need to find the Scanner in the Abandoned Ship and give it to the guy that you gave the Devon Goods to.
