I only have an AR and never had a GS. But, from what I know, chose an AR because when I got mine, all the possible items you can get in this game is already recorded. Rate this answer.

Excel answered:

GS and AR are different cheat system makes. So they have different cheats. I would recomend AR. Gameshark can mess up your game even crash it. AR does none of that.

As far as I know they are basically the same although I would advise you to get the Action Replay (depending on price as well though) because that is what I have and I have a ton of cool stuff on my emerald. Rare candy, Infinite masterballs( all balls actually) all TM's/HM's, all tickets for rare pokemon(Latias,Mew,etc) and would have even more but cannot be bothered with typing in the cheats LOL

Sephiroth Zero 1 answered:

There really isn't a differance. However, I would choose Action Replay. Maianly because I find more codes out there recently for AR. Although you may want to get cool stuff for Emerald I noticed some errors when using item codes and many other codes.

For example, when using an item code to get mystic or Eon tickets in your pc, the item that appears in your PC becomes Automatically permanent. There are also codes like the legenday Disobedience codes, such as the Mew or deoxys codes which makes them not obey you. To get to the point-

The only main difference between them is their name.

BBG_CREECAT answered:

I have an AR and it seems to get most all I need done. GameShark I think is in some legal stuff and that may make them harder to get new codes for later.

Alot of the pre-loaded codes won't work on the AR, but some will and you can find other ones that work and the best of them(like warp codes-which I don't know if there are for GS!!)in the AR sections here for all games and they usually work whe I try them.

AR's website is codejunkies.com if you want to see what they have to offer before you buy, but an AR is definitely worth $20 and mostly all I play is Pokemon and I got every penny's worth with those games alone!!
The warp codes are the best-I got Mew, Lugia, Ho-oh, Deoxys-WOW!

And I got an Eon Ticket and enabler code for Ruby and went back and got Latias, too. Unlimited balls of all types in LG. It's alot of fun, I promise you that!

Good luck deciding and hope this helps!
