What is the point of Altering cave?

Question for Pokemon Emerald
What is the point of Altering cave? Does it change over time, is that why it is called Altering cave? When I found it I got all excited then ended up spewing.
For those who don't know where Altering cave is, it is located left of the Trick Master's house just above the lake after you have beaten the Elite Four.
And also early in the game, after you have been to Granite Cave, If you call Steven on the Poke'nav, he says "Go and get a Mach bike and search Granite Cave again, you might find something rare." I went there and all I found was 1 miserable rare candy, after hoping for a fossil which I now have both of them. Yes, it is a RARE candy, but 1 level added to a level 31 Swampert 'aint much. So I guess I'm saying, is there anything else there after you cross over all the cracks?

Altering is nothing special. Unless you have a AR, then you decide what Pokemon go in there. No the game doesn't know what rare really means for us the AI isn't that smart.

The altering cave is a cave that changes with the Pokemon inside it. In other words,the Pokemon inside are different sometimes.
As for the granite cave, I think he said a new area...I don't know for sure though. Oh yeah, try catching nosepass in there. Nothin extemely rare there.
How do you have a level 31 swampert? Marshtomp evolves in to Swampert at level 36.

Theres no point in the altering cave.
No theres nothing except a repel and a rare candy to find in there.
P.S. Use the rare candies smartly, like use it to level up and level 99 Pokemon instead of a level 31 Pokemon or don't use it at all just sell it.
