Question for Pokemon Emerald

I keep trying to catch a water Pokemon but then it says "Oh! A bite!" but then it says "It got away..." it either does this or says "Not even a nibble..." It's getting very frustrating as I am unable to catch anything. Help me!

I believe this is for everyone.
The only solution I can figure out after an hour of looking for a water Pokemon:
Use surf to find a water Pokemon
Or
Get to Fallarbor Town and go west to catch a Lotad/Lombre

When it says "Oh a bite" ! Quickly press A or if youre using a emulator the button you set up for A. Then you will get a few dots again and the same thing, keep pressing A quickly and then you'll get the pokemon. Thats how you fish!
