Question for Pokemon Emerald

I have a pretty complicated question for a new pokemon player... I just started playing and I have fire red. I live in Japan but I have the US fire red. I have two GBAs, both American, however I bought my fiance the Japanese Emerald game cause she is Japanese and it is easier for her to follow that one. The game plays fine on the US GBA, however when we try to connect via the cable, it says "there was an error connecting" in Japanese on her game, and mine says "the other player isn't ready" on the US fire red. Now, I have completed the game, and gotten the machine fixed by doing the whole gems thing. I thought I read somewhere that we could connect together after she had cought 60 pokemon, but she is just starting her game, and isn't close to the end at all yet. She did hit sixty last night though, and we tried to connect and got the same message. Here's my question... Can we eventually play against eachother and trade pokemon, ect.. with our different games from different countries, or do we need two of the same kind (Jap or US) ? And, if there is a way, what do we have to do to do it??

No, in a word.

Games manufactured and programmed in different languages have completely different programmes altogether, depending on where the game is marketed, and so are not compatible with each other.

Sorry.

die_zombie answered:

You should be able to, becuase the only way of getting celebi is by trading it from japenese versions (or gameshark), so my advice is to keep on trying.

justinsalus answered:

Well I can understand that the programming would be slightly different because of the languages, but how much different can it really be if the Japanese game pack will plug right into the US GBA and work just fine?

Thanks for the help though, and I would appreciate it if someone who has the Japanese game over in the states would tell me if they are able to trade with their friends or not.

Today I read in an emerald walkthrough that there is a national dex to be obtained in Emerald when you beat the 4 the first time through, like in fr\\lg, so that is my new hope for success and I will be sure to post it if it works.

blueflame765 answered:

If she has emerald, she needs to beat the elite four befor she can trade between fire red and leaf green. If you have ruby or saphire, just trade to that and then trade to emerald.

justinsalus answered:

Okay I know it's been a while but just in case anyone was reading this and waiting for the outcome, here's the real deal. After she got the national dex by defeating the eliete four, we were able to play together fine! I also got together with another person with a japanese version of Leaf Green and also linked up just fine- way before they even beat the game... in fact, that is how I got all the starters in my dex!!! So the moral of the story is that Japanese and US pokemon versions are completely compatible and will work together fine! Lots of fun too!!! Thanks to all for the help.

Latios and Latias answered:

No you don't need two of the same kind because I have The japanese Emerald game and I can trade to English games such as Ruby.

And after that catching 60 Pokemon thing go to island 1and talk to that guy in the Pokemon center again after getting the national dex from prof.Oak.

(You get it after that 60 Pokemon catching thing) and you'll be able to trade with the Hoenn Reigon!

Hope I helped! ^_^
