I was looking at the platinum manual and it showed the croc guy as one of the starters for emerald. But when I was playing it they were the same as ruby. Am I doing something wrong or is there something different

No, Emerald does have have the same the starters as Ruby and Saphire, as they are almost the same game apart from a few things such as the Battle Frontier. And if you mean Totodile as the croc Pokemon, then it was only the starter for Crystal, Gold and Silver. Hope I helped,

No, the starters on Emerald are supposed to be the same as Ruby; Torchic, Mudkip, and Treeko. What you saw was probably an edited picture, or a hacked game. I hope this helps

The starters for Ruby and Sapphire are the same as Emerald.
