Can someone please please help me by telling me how to get all the shells and were do I get the hook shot at and also who do you you give the scale from the mermaid to?

The shells are hidden all over the map, you have to look for them. You get the hookshot in level 5 after beating the skeleton mini-boss. You take the scale to the mermaid statue (south west a little from animal village). Put it in the statue and a stairwell will open up.
