ANSWERS

1. Totodile or Cyndaquil
2. Pidgey (rt. 29, 30, 31, 32) or Spearow (rt. 46)
3. Rattata (rt. 29, 30, 31, 32)
4. Weedle (rt. 30, 31)
5. Gastly (Sprout Tower)
6. Mareep (rt. 32)

Totodile is probably the most powerful of the 3 starting pokemon, and will be the most useful when you have to use moves like surf and cut, but it learns very weak moves.

Cyndaquil is slightly less powerful, but learns very strong moves and evolves quickly (lv 14).

Chikorita, the other choice, is the weakest of the 3 pokemon, and is very succeptable to 6 of the 8 gyms' elements. it is not very useful unless you need a pokemon that can learn cut, but past lv. 40 it can actually become quite powerful. however, it is definately the worst of the 3 choices, especially for a starting team.

Pidgey is relatively stronger in defense than Spearow, but Spearow definately has superior attack and speed. However, Pidgey's evolutions, Pigeotto (lv. 18) and Pidgeot (lv. 36) are much more powerful than Spearow's evolved form Fearow (lv. 20). I would suggest Pidgey, but if you feel responsible enough not to do anything reckless with your pokemon Spearow is probably the better choice.

Rattata is a very strong and fast pokemon in spite of its appearance and learns very powerful moves such as hyper fang and super fang. However, be careful when fighting ghost pokemon because against them Rattata's attacks will do no damage at all!

Weedle is slightly less strong, but it has a strong defense as a poison-type. its evolutions, Kakuna (lv 7) and Beedrill (lv 10) are very strong however, but it would be wise to ditch them once you reach goldenrod as their power will become obsolete against higher-level pokemon.

Gastly will be very useful against many types of pokemon. though it grows somewhat slowly, it is very strong and learns many useful moves. beware of normal-type pokemon, however, because though normal-type attacks do not affect ghost pokemon, ghost-type attacks do not affect normal pokemon and this will become a huge problem if the normal pokemon knows a dark-type move.

Lastly, Mareep is an excellent pokemon, though somewhat weak in its first stage. It will become very useful against flying and water pokemon, and can learn flash. electric pokemon are naturally fast and strong, but beware of ground pokemon because electric-type attacks will not affect them.

If you can't wait to get a Mareep, you can catch Caterpie (rt. 30, 31) or Geodude (Dark Cave) but Caterpie is VERY weak until it evolves into Metapod (lv. 7), and it still will not be of much use against the first gym, even after it evolves into Butterfree (lv 10). However, Butterfree will learn some psychic moves, which will become useful in Sprout Tower and against the plethora of poison pokemon in the game.

Geodude is very hard to train in that it takes a while for it to grow to a new level. though it does have a good offensive against a number of element types, its attacks are generally weak and it is very slow. However, if you can get it to learn Rock Throw, it will become useful in the first gym as rock pokemon are very strong against flying-types.

Personally, I like cyndaquil as a starter. Fire is one of my favourite types, and it's also the most useful during the game of the starters I believe. Cyndaquil is also the fastest of the starters, and speed is important to winning battles. Fire is strong against Grass, Ice, Bug and Steel.

A good team should also have an electric pokemon. Paralizing a pokemon is a useful technique due to it drastically reducing speed and sometimes preventing the pokemon from attacking. I emphasize that speed is important again. Electric is good against Water and Flying, and the only type super affective against it is Ground.
An ice type Pokemon is good to have as well. If anything is better than paralizing, it's freezing since it leaves the pokemon completely unuseable. Ice is strong against Grass, Ground, Dragon and Flying, with at least one pokemon from all the Elite Four trainers having the later, and three of Lance's Pokemon being both Flying and Dragon.

The only time you can do easy on the speed is when you get a good Ground pokemon. It's useful to have a pokemon with strong physical attacks, and Ground is also good against Fire, Poison, Electric, Rock and Steel. Most Ground pokemon tend to have good defence too.

A good Psychic pokemon is useful too, but a decent Flying type is just as useful if you already have the Ground Type. Those are the only two types that are super effective against Fighting pokemon. Psychic is also good against Poison (but Ground will take care of them) and Flying is also good against Grass and Bug (but Fire will take care of them). Flying is resistant to Grass, Fighting, Bug, and completely immune to Ground, while Psychic is resistant to Fighting and other Psychics.

The rest is up to you. Well, it's all up to you, I'm not forcing you to listen to me. But I'll stress the importance of speed again, it can win you battles.

Cyndaquil or Totodile
Sentret
Pidgey
Geodude or Onix
Bellsprout

If you get a Totodile, put Growlithe in your party. If you get Cyndaquil, put a Poliwag or Magikarp (who evolves into Gyarados on L20)

Cyndaquil to start.

Catch a Pidgey.

Catch a Wooper.

Catch a Bellsprout so you can trade it for the Onix in Violet City.

Catch a Pineco in that forest after Azalea Town.

Catch the Sudowoodo and Swap it for Onix

Eevee is a must have.

First of all you can't get a mareep on crystal and to start it really doesn't matter who's in your team right away as long as you train them a lot I would concentrate on who I could use later my team is

Chikorita
Onix
Poliwag
Wooper
Ghastly
Togepi

Chikorita is an awesome grass Pokemon
Cyndaquil has good evolutions but arcanine is better fire and there are a shit ton of water Pokemon

For the starter I would say Cyndaquil for a fire type then for water wooper and for grass I would say pickup Bellsprout then for flying pidgey then you should pickup a fighting type or electric type for fighting tyrouge and electric type magneton then for the sixth any type you like HOPE THIS HELPED. POKEMON THAT JUST MISSED arcanine, flareon, golduck, poiwarth, parascet, tangele, fearow, primape, electrode.
