Can someone tell me how to easily avoid an attack without using a card?

Unfortunately you can't :(, I've had this game for a few years now and there are still a few things that I'm trying to get (I need like 1 or 2 cards and then I have to get hercule and I think one other person and I'll be done)...I haven't played it in a while but from what I remember all you can do to dodge/lessen attacks is guard, move to the farthest and highest corner for physical attacks or move to the farthest and lowest corner for beam attacks. (or of course use a card but then you lose a bunch of cc points...)

What you need to do get your speed up high then slow down your oppopent that way the gap in speed is high then you are able to guard or block attacks(note: you have to someone fast to start out in.
