Achievements

Latest update by CMBF on May 21st 2013
The base game for BioShock Infinite for Microsoft's Xbox 360 has a total of 50 Achievements that are worth 1000 Gamer Score (1000G). These are divided into two groups - the 41 regular Achievements and the 9 Secret Achievements - the former being considered open content while the details and the descriptions for the latter are concealed as they may constitute spoiler information for the player.

Care should be taken not to read that section of this Wiki page if you do not want to read Spoiler Content!

The Achievements are presented here, in alphabetical order, in order to make them easier for you to reference.

Regular Achievements

A Real Pistol (5G) Killed 25 enemies with the Broadsider Pistol.
Description: This is a kill-count Achievement in which you must use the weapon specified to kill the specified number of enemies.

Hint: The best way to unlock this type of Achievement is to stick with the weapon you are using until you unlock its Achievement and then stop using that weapon if at all possible, switching to the next weapon for which there is an Achievement that you can unlock!

Aerial Assassin (5G) Killed 20 enemies with a Sky-Line Strike.
Description: While riding the rail target an enemy to receive the prompt to use A to attack them and then use A to attack them.

Hint: This will work best early in the game but if you find that you have not unlocked this by the time that you complete the game, simply replay earlier chapters to get it.

Auld Lang Syne (75G) Completed the game on 1999 mode.
Description: Complete the game on the hardest mode.

Hint: This is not easy by any stretch of the imagination, and in fact the developers clearly state in their launch interviews that this should NOT be the first difficulty you play the game at (it can be unlocked using the Konami Code straight away) since it does not offer the player a game play experience that is typical of the game itself.

Big Game Hunter (5G) Killed 100 enemies with the Founder Huntsman Carbine or Vox Burstgun.

Bolt From the Blue (25G) Killed 5 enemies with a headshot while riding a Sky-Line.
Description: When you are riding the Sky Line and you place your gun into aiming mode / iron sights mode, the world slows down considerably, which allows for you to unlock this.

Hint: Using the Carbine seems to be the best method for unlocking this one.

Bon Voyage (25G) Killed 20 enemies by knocking them off Columbia.
Description: Kill enemies by knocking them over the edge so that they fall to their death.

Hint: This can be accomplished in several ways, but the easiest by far is to use the Bronco Vigor to suspend them and then shoot them with a low-damage weapon, as each shot will push them away from you and ideally over the edge of the floater you are on. Another tactic that works really well is to use the grenade launcher's splash damage to knock stronger enemies over the edge. Note that this is one of the Achievements you will need to actively work towards unlocking.

Coins in the Cushion (10G) Looted 200 containers.
Description: The number of coins do not matter, this counter is for containers only.

Hint: You should be looting every container you can anyway in order to keep your ammunition and other supply levels filled while spending as little as possible in money.

Combination Shock (50G) Performed all 8 of the Vigor combinations.
Description: There are a total of 8 combos are for this Achievement: Bucking Bronco + Charge, Bucking Bronco + Devil's Kiss, Devil's Kiss + Charge, Murder of Crows + Devil's Kiss, Murder of Crows + Shock Jockey, Possession + Devil's Kiss, Possession + Shock Jockey, and Undertow and Shock Jockey.

Hint: If you are having trouble with unlocking this one it is very likely due to one of the Vigors you are using requiring it to be charged up for use. In that case you want to purchase all of the upgrades for it as that will make it quicker to pop, and solve this problem.

David & Goliath (10G) Killed 20 "Heavy Hitter" enemies.
Description: Heavy Hitters are the semi-boss mobs in the game, like the automated Washington and the large automaton called a Handyman who has the heart-target in its chest.

Hint: You should end up unlocking this as a normal part of game play since there are more than 20 of these two types of mob you will have to kill as part of the story progression.

Dress for Success (5G) Equipped a piece of Gear in all four slots.
Description: Bearing in mind that each piece of gear fits one of the four slots, and each has special attributes, just getting this unlocked is the starting point. You will want to fine-tune the ones you choose to keep in each of the four slots for the best results in play.

Hint: Remember to pick up each new piece using the 'X' button rather than the 'A' button unless you mean to immediately equip the item (which is what 'A' does).

Eavesdropper (50G) Collected every Voxophone.
Description: These collection items add to the story in the game by providing you details that offer tremendous insight into what is actually happening. They range from being out in the open to slightly hidden to concealed.

Hint: There is NO tracking screen in the game to tell you which you have and which you missed, so you will want to print out the collection page from the Wiki and tick them off as you get them.

Grand Largesse (10G) Spent $10,000 at the vending machines of Columbia.
Description: All of the money you spend in all three types of machines counts for this.

Hint: You can easily unlock this just in upgrading weapons and Vigors.

Hazard Pay (25G) Killed 10 enemies by utilizing environmental hazards.
Description: This is unlocked by using the various objects that either exist, or that (like Tesla coils and such) you can call into existence via Tears.

Hint: You should end up unlocking this as a normal part of play if you are taking advantage of all of the different tear objects you can.

Heartbreaker (50G) Killed a Handyman by only shooting his heart.
Description: This is obtained by ONLY shooting the Handyman in the Heart-target Circle on its chest. If you accidentally shoot one of its arms or hands, this will not unlock.

Hint: There are several bugs you can employ in the game to make this easier - one is jumping from Sky Hooks to roofs, as the Handyman will sometimes get “stuck” on the roof, whereas you can jump down and then pick it off using the Sniper Rifle from a distance. Another way is to get them “stuck” in a doorway, with much the same result though you can still be damaged by its AOE attack usually.

Here Little Piggy (5G) Killed 30 enemies with the Founder Pig Volley Gun or Vox Hail Fire.

Industrial Accident (5G) Killed 20 enemies with a Sky-Hook Execution.
Description: Just like it sounds, you kill an enemy who is near-death using the 'Y' button to initiate a Sky Hook Execution move. This is NOT the attack from the rails.

Hint: An easy way to get this is to make it a habit of shooting to damage stronger enemies until the white skull icon appears over their head and then finishing them off with the 'Y' button melee attack.

Infused with Greatness (25G) Collected every Infusion upgrade in a single game.
Description: This is just what it sounds like, so you should suss out every Infusion Bottle to upgrade that you can.

Hint: If you did not purchase the game via pre-order you will not have access to the five instant upgrades that came with that, which means you will likely not unlock this until towards the end of the game.

Kitted Out (10G) Fully upgraded one weapon and one Vigor.
Description: This means purchasing, from the vending machines, all of the upgrades for ONE Vigor, and ONE weapon.

Hint: Your best results will likely be to upgrade the Possession Vigor and the Pistol, since those are what you will use the most of early on for Vigors the most of period.

Loose Cannon (5G) Killed 25 enemies with the Paddywhacker Hand Cannon.

Lost Weekend (10G) Killed 5 enemies while you are drunk.
Description: This is unlocked just as it sounds - by drinking three alcoholic beverages and then quickly killing five enemies/people.

Hint: In the bar in Shanty Town is the easiest place to unlock this, mostly because on the table in the center of the room there are six bottles of booze. So you can drink three, quickly kill three people in the bar, then drink the other three and take your time killing two people towards the back of the bar.

Master of Pyrotechnics (5G) Killed 20 enemies with the Barnstormer RPG.

Mind Over Matter (10G) Killed 20 enemies using Possessed machines.
Description: Just like it sounds.

Hint: You should end up unlocking this as part of regular play, particularly when dealing with police boats/ships as you will find Possessing thier machinegun bots is a very effective way to clear their decks of cops!

More for Your Money (25G) Lured 3 enemies into a single Vigor trap 5 times.
Description: The trap system simply requires you to hold down the activation button for a few seconds and target where you want to lay the trap.

Hint: You may find that the Shock Trap has the best results and widest spread for unlocking this Achievement.

On a Clear Day... (5G) Killed 30 enemies with the Bird's Eye Sniper Rifle.

On the Fly (10G) Killed 30 enemies while riding a Sky-Line.
Description: Just as it sounds.

Hint: This will likely require specific effort on your part to unlock.

Passionately Reciprocated (5G) Killed 150 enemies with the Founder Triple R Machine Gun or Vox Repeater.

Raising the Bar (10G) Upgraded one attribute (Health, Shield, or Salts) to its maximum level.
Description: Just as it sounds.

Hint: This should come naturally as you play the game, since you will be collecting the upgrades anyway for the other Achievement.

The Roguish Type (25G) Used Elizabeth to pick 30 locks.
Description: Use Elizabeth's ability to pick 30 locks just as it sounds.

Hint: This will unlock naturally as part of regular play as there are far more than 30 locks you will need to have opened for you.

Saw the Elephant (25G) Completed the game on Normal difficulty or above.
Description: Just as it sounds.

Hint: Difficulty levels stack, so if you play the game on Hard this will unlock as well.

Scavenger Hunt (75G) Completed the game in 1999 mode without purchasing anything from a Dollar Bill vending machine.
Description: Just as it sounds and a lot harder than you might think...

Hint: Good luck with this - the 1999 mode is brutal.

Seasoned to Taste (5G) Killed 30 enemies with the Peppermill Crank Gun.

Should Auld Acquaintance... (10G) Unlocked 1999 mode.
Description: Complete the game on Hard or Medium to unlock this mode.

Hint: This can also be unlocked by using the Konami Code - on the D-Pad do the following: UP/UP/DOWN/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT/LEFT/RIGHT/B/A - at which point you will be notified that it has unlocked and the Achievement will ding.

Sightseer (50G) Used all telescopes and Kinetoscopes in the game.
Description: Just as it sounds, this requires specific effort to unlock.

Hint: It will help immensely to use the Wiki page on this collection as a ticklist. These can be unlocked if you miss them by replaying the levels from the Chapter Select menu.

Skeet Shoot (25G) Killed 5 enemies while they are falling.
Description: Simply kill five falling enemies.

Hint: If you use the vigor to do this bear in mind that you MUST wait for it to stop working and for them to start to fall BEFORE you kill them. Shotguns work good, just saying.

Stone Cold Pinkerton (50G) Completed the game on Hard difficulty or above.
Description: Just like it sounds.

Hint: Difficulty levels stack, so if you play through the first time on Hard, it will also unlock Medium and Easy levels.

Strange Bedfellows (10G) Killed 20 enemies using allies brought in through a Tear.
Description: Simply use the conveniently placed Tears to summon allies like the Mosquito, and shooter bots, as well as the Patriot automoton.

Hint: If you do not unlock this as part of your first playthrough, you can load Chapters and replay them to increment the counter.

Street Sweeper (5G) Killed 50 enemies with the Founder China Broom Shotgun or Vox Heater.

Hint: The Shock + shoot method works really well for this.
