Both are about the same when you compare Max CP - Feraligatr wins that battle by not too much - so typing plays the deciding factor on this one. It might not be the best measure to base a decision upon, but in a game that doesn’t contain as many measurables at the mainstream Pokemon Games, every little detail plays a part.

But on top of having a good typing - having a key edge over popular choices of Vaporeon, Feraligatr and Gyarados - Ampharos also has the claim of being one of the best Electric Types in all of Pokemon GO. Yes, albeit there aren’t that many Electric Types presently in the popular cellular game, Ampharos is still one of the best. It’s really only competitor in this given category is Jolteon, at least until Legends are released or more generations comes. And until that time, this Gyarados slayer will be play a huge role in the game.
