Character Description and Story ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Yoda Age: 900 years old Birth Place: Unknown Height: 2' 2" Weight: Unknown Birth Date: Unknown Blood Type: Unknown (Midi-chlorian Count: approx. 20,000) Weapon: Lightsaber Weapon Name: Unknown Discipline: Ataru Family: Unknown A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.... Jedi Master Yoda, who was considered by some to be a living legend, remained hidden on the planet Dagobah in order to evade persistent pursuers after the rise of the Empire. For many years Yoda had lived on that planet of mud and swampland. One day, he noticed a faint wave of power that shook the very foundations of the universe. He looked up into the sky to try and see what was happening, but had no means of discerning it. The wave of power was weak and quickly became undetectable. Though it had been an unmistakable disturbance, he surmised that it was not a huge problem. The movements of the Galactic Empire were of more concern. The Empire had taken control of the galaxy, and many suffered under its tyranny. However, as the days passed, the strength of the wave increased. It could now be felt constantly as a distortion in the universe. Soon after, Darth Vader, the Empire's Dark Lord, made his move. Yoda sensed that it was time to act as well, for if the Empire was becoming involved, then so must he. Leaving Dagobah meant that his safety would be compromised, but there were no Jedi left with the power to stop Darth Vader. In the course of his journey, Yoda sensed that Darth Vader had become involved with the disturbance. Vader's motive was now clear. There was something on the other side that created this disturbance, and the Empire was attempting to gain control of that power. If left unchecked, Vader may return to their universe with a huge calamity. Without hesitation, Yoda made his decision and jumped into the disturbance himself. No matter what may lay waiting for him, he knew he had to stop the Empire's scheme. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- III. History of Yoda ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Outside of Vader on the PS3 version, Yoda is the most known character to ever appear in a Soulcalibur game, even beating out Link and Spawn in Soulcalibur II. Yoda was first introduced in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and appeared in Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi, and all three prequel movies (Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith) as well as appearing in the first Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated show, as well as the upcoming (at the time of this writing) Star Wars: The Clone Wars CGI movie and TV show. In Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Phantom Menace, Yoda was originally a puppet controlled and voiced by Frank Oz. In Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, while still voiced by Frank Oz, he was a CGI animation, allowing him to do one thing we have never seen Yoda do before: Lightsaber combat. Yoda for the longest time was the Grand Master of the Jedi order. Every Jedi for many years first trained under him before being assigned to another master for training. Yoda was a master of the force, with his frail old appearance hiding the skills of a highly acrobatic and powerful fighter. Yoda has been able to lift large objects with only his mind and could stop Force Lighting with his hands. His greatest power was that of Force Valor, allowing him to easily overcome his age. He was also a master of Form IV Lightsaber combat (Ataru, also known as way of the Hawk-Bat). Yoda also had a very interesting personality. He spoke in a very odd manner, speaking in an object-subject-verb manner. Yoda had a brilliant mind and was a key diplomat as well as an excellent military strategist. As a teacher, he was very unorthodox, however, in the end, a student understood why he was the best and would come to fully understand him. However, despite his best efforts, he couldn't stop the rise of the Empire, and exiled himself to the planet Dagobah, where he lived for the rest of his life. In this game, the story takes place after Episode III as he hides on Dagobah, till the day Luke Skywalker would come to train with him in Episode V. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. How to Read Move List ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Directional movement: 7 8 9 4 6 1 2 3 1 is down and left. 2 is down. 3 is down and right. 4 is left. 6 is right. 7 is up and left. 8 is up. 9 is up and right. If any button has a 5, after it, it means hold. For example: 15 means to hold down and left. A5 means hold down A button. If A, B, K, or G has a 0 before it, it must be done in the same frame (1/60 of a second). For Example: 0BA means hit B the A in the same frame Together: 0BA5 means to hit B and hold A in the same frame. A is horizontal attack, and on default, the button is X. B is vertical attack, and on default, the button is Y. K is kick, and on default, the button is B. G is guard, and on default, the button is A. In ATK LVL: H is high M is middle L is low SM is special middle SL is special low For example: M H H H H is middle, high, high, high, high This is how to read a move: Command; Move Name; ATK LVL; Damage; Notes All damage numbers assume your weapon is the default weapon at 100% power and that your opponent has not lost any armor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- V. Tips to play as Yoda ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Utilize Force Cancel: Force Cancel is perhaps one of Yoda's greatest assets, as it allows him to chain a midair combo into another midair combo, until the Force Gauge runs out. This will allow you to steam together powerful combos. Be warned however, that when Yoda's Force Gauge runs out, he will stop and for a few seconds be unable to perform any actions, leaving you open for more attacks. - Force Parry, You Best Guard Impact: If you have a good bit of Force Gauge, try to utilize Force Parry (B+K). By using this, not only do you have the chance to hit a Guard Impact, but if you hit A+B, you will perform an unblockable attack for major damage that can be highly useful. - Use Throws: Yoda's strongest moves come from his throws. Use them well. Just be warned, he has to jump to use them, so you will be vulnerable to high attacks at this time. - Take Advantage of Yoda's Height: If you see your opponent is opening a high attack, make sure you don't jump. Take advantage of Yoda's height, as he can't be hit by high attacks so long as he doesn't jump! Know the moves that don't make Yoda jump and use them well! Yoda also can't be thrown (although he does take a bit of damage), so know that full and well. Inversely, when someone uses certain low attacks (that go straight low, not one that crashes down on you), you can use a jumping attack to avoid it. However, contrary to popular belief, you are NOT immune to Critical Finishes (when a Critical Finish is used against Yoda, characters just use an unblockable instead of their real critical finish), so be warned on that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VII. FAQs ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. If I were to buy the normal version for the 360 (not the limited edition) would I still be able to use Yoda? A. Yes, as long as you have the 360 version you will have Yoda. Q. How many skill levels does Yoda have? Any clues or tips for leveling him up? What does leveling up achieve? A. Yoda levels up 9 skill levels, as do all characters. The only way to level up a character is playing as them, mostly by finishing fights with that character. Leveling up will allow you to use new abilities. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XI.
