Introduction [ITR]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mission Mode is the first (and most likely the last) downloadable content for Ninja Gaiden II that adds more challenges for you to face. It will cost you 800 Microsoft points to purchase it. Expect to be challenged to an extent that can go beyond anything the Story Mode can offer, even on Path of the Master Ninja. Bear in mind that this guide will only cover Mission Mode, although a good deal of the listed information can be used in conjunction with the Story Mode solely because the enemies in both are the same. This guide is made under the assumption that you at least completed the story mode once and have some level of experience with the enemies. If you have yet to play the story mode, I would strongly encourage you to do so before attempting Mission Mode. If there are sections of the guide that are unclear or would like to see a section of a mission elaborated on more, feel free to contact me. For those who are still not familiar with the names of specific enemies, here is a list of all the ones you will see in Mission Mode: Godomus: The giant blind troll mini-boss that is seen in chapters 4 and 8 of the Story Mode. Quetzalcoatl: The giant yellow dragon bosses from Chapter 9 of Story Mode. Gajas: The scorpion-like enemies with blade arms and very powerful tail attacks, which will be either silver or red. Ghallas: The aggressive red dragons that are only seen in chapter 12 of the Story Mode outside of Tests of Valor. Tac Ninjas: The green ninjas wielding machine guns that are seen in chapter 7 of the Story Mode. Warlocks: The magic-using enemies that will chant and then use some variation of a fire-based attack. Pill Bugs: The small green-colored bugs. Van Gelfs: There are three varieties of these; the skinny pink ones, the green flying ones, and the yellow flying ones. Spriggans: The chainsaw/cannon zombies that begin to appear in chapter 9 of the Story Mode. Black Widows: The four-legged spider robots that are first seen in chapter 12 of the story mode. Fiend -----: If the name of an enemy has the word fiend in front, it refers to the version that will appear from chapter 12 of the Story Mode onward. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~II. Version Updates [VRS]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1.0: The guide is mostly complete, although it is in need of Survival Mode strategies and enemy lists for specific weapons. Any input for them would be greatly appreciated. Also, I intend to make the 100 enemy karma missions as in-depth as the other multi-round missions. 1.1: Fixed some minor spelling errors, added in the specific items obtained in chests, put more info into the 100 karma missions, and a few other changes here and there. 1.2: Updated some boss strategies, added a section on glitches, added a section for FAQs, and updated mission 13. 1.3: Updated all information related to boss minions and added a bit to the Survival Mission section. I promise I'll have more Survival Mission information in the next update. 1.4: Full listings for the rounds of enemies in survival missions and some minor updates to the general survival information. 1.5: Nothing really new this time, but I changed the format of the enemy listing to make it easier to read. There was also a problem with the actual posted copy altering the format in some spots and making the lists look awkward, to say the least. In addition, I split the first round of mission 13 since it is really two rounds with the same enemies. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~III. General Mission Mode Information [GMI]~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are a total of 24 missions in Mission Mode, which are then divided into karma missions and survival missions. Your karma scores for all 24 can be uploaded to the leaderboards. Your best score for each mission will be saved and displayed on the Mission Mode screen along with your total karma score, which is the combined total of your best score from each mission. Purchasing Mission Mode gives access to 10 new secret achievements, which are as follows: Complete 4 karma missions Complete 8 karma missions Complete all karma missions on Acolyte difficulty Complete all karma missions on Warrior difficulty Complete all karma missions on Mentor difficulty Complete all karma missions on Master Ninja difficulty Obtain your first survival mission medallion Obtain bronze medallions in all survival missions Obtain silver medallions in all survival missions Obtain gold medallions in all survival missions Green essence may drop from regular enemies in the event that you don't kill them with an Ultimate Technique or Obliteration Technique. Each orb will increase your karma multiplier by one with the cap being x5. For example, if you get one green orb, you'll have karma x2 and then if you get another, it'll become karma x3. It will wear off after a certain amount of time, so it's advisable to make the most of it once you get it. Higher karma multipliers last longer. Green essence also functions similar to blue and red essence in that a single one can be used for a fully-charged Ultimate Technique. The strategies listed below are all ones I have found effective. Keep in mind that they are not the only way to complete these missions, nor would I expect them to work best for everyone who attempts to use them to find them the most effective. I will gladly place any solid strategy in the guide that is given to me (with all proper credit given) after confirming that it will work. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~IV. Karma Missions [KRM]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Karma Missions include missions 1-16. The objectives are set based on the mission, although they all are essentially either killing all enemies or killing a boss. All of these missions have an end to them, although karma itself. You start on the lowest difficulty (Acolyte) and unlock the next one by beating it on the difficulty below it. The enemies present will not change based on the difficulty you choose. All major bosses are in their strongest form. Expect to see Elizebet's teleport grab, Alexi's berserk mode, Volf's two-hand grab Zedonius' fire wave and fire beam, and Genshin's Underworld Drop. Minions will begin to appear alongside bosses once you reach Warrior difficulty. Along with the first spawn, which will be skipped on a few bosses, minions will respawn after the boss reaches 75% health, 50% health, and 25% health. Although you can skip the respawns by not killing the minions, killing them after skipping spawns will cause a skipped minion spawn to occur. For instance, if you bring a boss down to 40% without killing any minions, you would have to kill three sets of minions to leave you alone with the boss until bringing the boss down to 25% health; the initial spawn, the 75% respawn, and the 50% respawn. The one exception to this rule is the Quetzalcoatl fight, since there are two bosses. Zedonius loses his ability to summon Gajas since he now has minions, although Dagra Dai has no minions and still summons purple Van Gelfs. All missions will give you access to all fully-upgraded weapons except 13, which takes one away. All missions will give you all ranged weapons aside from the Gatling Spear Gun except 8 and 11, which each take one away. You will have all ninpo available to you in the missions, although their levels will vary. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 1 [M01]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: main staircase in Volf's castle Health bar: medium-small Ki slots: 1 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life Enemies: 8 Black Spider Ninjas 8 Fire Archers 4 Warlocks Enemy total: 20 A very simple mission. You'll face Ninjas and Warlocks on the ground at the start and then you'll need to sweep the upper floor for Fire Archers. As you kill some of the Archers, more enemies will spawn on the bottom floor. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 2 [M02]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: area in chapter 9 where you fight worms right after the tunnel worm boss Health bar: medium-small Ki slots: 1 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life Enemies: 5 Tac Ninjas 2 Rocket Ninjas 1 Worm Enemy total: 8 If the Worm is giving you trouble, kill the Ninjas first and then use the essence to hit it with Ultimate Techniques. The Rocket Ninjas should be your first targets, as they can become an annoyance if they attack while dealing with other enemies. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 3 [M03]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: section of chapter 3 before the section with the hole leading to the sewers Health bar: medium-small Ki slots: 1 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life Round 1 enemies: 4 Tac Ninjas 2 Rocket Ninjas Round 1 enemy total: 6 Chest reward: green essence As with the previous mission, take out the Rocket Ninjas first and then take care of the rest. ============================BOSS==================================== Round 2 enemies: Godomus 4 Tac Ninjas (minions) Round 2 enemy total: 13 *Note: minions skip the initial spawn* To take care of Godomus easily, equip a powerful weapon and move right behind his feet. He will try to nail you repeatedly with his slam move, which you can dash-dodge easily. Throw in a full combo after dodging it and repeat the process until he falls. If he decides to do his arm sweep, block the hits and immediately move back behind his feet. Aside from possibly using their machine gun fire to lock you in place, the minions here will pose very little threat to you. You can chain Ultimate Techniques with them very easily for the most possible karma if you use one with enough range to hit the boss as well. Otherwise, it's entirely possible to rush the boss and ignore them. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 4 [M04]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: organ room in Volf's castle where you fight Gajas for a key Health bar: medium Ki slots: 1 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life and 1 Grain of Spiritual Life ============================BOSS==================================== Enemies: Alexi 5 Pill Bugs (minions) 2 Silver Gajas (minions) Enemy total: 29 Alexi is a very agile boss, which means learning how to dodge his moves is very important. His grabs are a top concern, although both can be dash-dodged with proper timing. The tricky part of this fight is not being overwhelmed by the minions. If they corner you, expect to take a bunch of hits, especially if the Gajas hit you with their tails. If you can get some essence, chaining Ultimate Techniques on the minions should take them out fairly quickly, especially since Pill Bugs have low health. Otherwise, the Scythe's aerial XYY combo works wonders in dealing damage to Alexi while keeping you away from his fist combos and the minions on the ground. Combine this with the Scythe's Ultimate Techniques when your attacks kill a minion and he will fall. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 5 [M05]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: Zedonius' clock tower arena Health bar: medium Ki slots: 1 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life and 1 Grain of Spiritual Life ============================BOSS==================================== Enemies: Volf 2 Brown Werewolves (minions) Enemy total: 9 A very simple way to beat Volf as long as you practice the timing for it is to stun-lock him with the Scythe. When using the Scythe's aerial XXY on him as he prepares to attack, one of the two X hits should be blocked. Immediately after being blocked, hit YY and you will both damage and stun him with the hits. Wait a few seconds for him to begin his attack again and repeat the process. As long as your X attacks hit him properly, you can use this to effectively never be hit. Alternatively, you can get away from him and lure him into dashing. As he gets near you, use a Wind Run to dodge him and use the Scythe's XXY aerial combo at the peak of the jump. Along with dealing a good amount of damage to him, the hits will also stun him. You can then back away from him and repeat this method until he falls. His Werewolf minions will not be much of a problem as long as you keep your distance from them, as they tend to not attack you at all if you do. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 6 [M06]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: Dagra Dai's arena Health bar: medium Ki slots: 1 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life and 1 Grain of Spiritual Life ============================BOSS==================================== Enemies: Zedonius 2 Tac Ninjas (minions) 3 Rocket Ninjas (minions) Enemy total: 21 On his own, Zedonius can be challenging due to the timing in dodging his attacks. His landing attack is the most important to dodge, as it does the most damage. To dodge it, wait as long as you can before he lands and do a Wind Run. If timed correctly, neither his landing nor the shockwave will hit you and you will be able to immediately use a full Scythe YYYY combo for heavy damage. His fire wave attack can be dodged with by Wind Running into it and his fire beam attack can be dodged with well-timed dodging to the side. His minions will make this fight a great deal more difficult. It is possible to win by either focusing solely on the boss or taking them all out first, but neither is without consequences. Zedonius' powerful ranged attacks can make short work of you if given the opportunity, but becoming guard-locked by the Tac Ninjas or hit by rockets can lead to trouble with fighting the boss. If you choose to rush Zedonius, Scythe aerials are a very good option for avoiding most attacks. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 7 [M07]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: Chapter 1 Rasetsu arena Health bar: medium Ki slots: 1 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life and 1 Grain of Spiritual Life ============================BOSS==================================== Enemies: Elizebet Incendiary Shuriken Ninja (minions) 3 Fire Archers (minions) Enemy total: 17 Elizebet's quick attacks and frequent dashing make her a very strong boss that will put your dodging to the test. On top of that, her teleport throw and blood draining attacks will punish you for keeping her at a distance. Once again, Scythe aerial combos will work, although her speed will require you to be careful of when you use them. If you time them wrong, she will most likely knock you out of the air. The best part about using them is that the hits will still land if she tries to dash around you. Her minions are not that big of an issue because you'll most likely need to remain mobile to deal with Elizebet. I would advise, however, that you take out the Incendiary Shuriken Ninja, since it will follow you around. Try to take it out in a single combo while Elizebet is too close to use her two ranged attacks. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 8 [M08]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: narrow shallow water section under the bridge near the chapter 1 essence farming spot Health bar: medium Ki slots: 1 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: N/A *Note: Incendiary Shurikens are not usable* ============================BOSS==================================== Enemies: Fiend Genshin 2 Rocket Ninjas (minions) Enemy total: 9 The narrow fighting area given can make this fight quite challenging. As always, Genshin can be beaten by blocking or dodging his combos and throwing in some of your own in between. Beware his teleporting slash, as he tends to counter you with it fairly often. Since you have no items to use, you're better off playing defensively and not letting Genshin get any hits on you. Don't stray too far away from him or else he will use his shockwave attack, which will do heavy damage. Using a Wind Path into the Kusari-gama's YY aerial combo is very effective against him. The minions here can add to the challenge by making it easier for Genshin to hit you. If you can take them out quickly, it is within your best interest to get rid of them. Since they will follow you, you can attempt to lure them away from Genshin and take them out before he can teleport to you. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 9 [M09]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: Volf's coliseum Health bar: medium-small Ki slots: 1 Ninpo levels: 2 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life and 1 Grain of Spiritual Life Round 1 enemies: 4 Rocket Ninjas 4 Warlocks 4 Black Spider Ninjas 4 Black Spider Claw Ninjas Round 1 enemy total: 16 Chest reward: green essence Take out the Rocket Ninjas and Warlocks first and then focus on the close-range enemies. ============================BOSS==================================== Round 2 enemies: Genshin Round 2 enemy total: 1 Chest reward: Jewel of the Demon Seal It's back to the regular Genshin again. The only big danger here is being caught in his Underworld Drop. Try to finish him off quickly so you can use the karma bonus for the next round. ==================================================================== Round 3 enemies: 2 Brown Werewolves 2 Purple Van Gelfs 2 Spriggans 2 Black Widows 2 Silver Gajas Round 3 enemy total: 10 Chest reward: Spirit of the Devils The Lunar's 360 Ultimate Technique will make short work of all enemy types present. If they are not killed outright, it will most likely take off a limb. Round 4 enemies: 3 Red Werewolves 3 Green Van Gelfs 3 Fiend Warlocks 3 Humanoid Mechs 3 Fiend Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas Round 4 enemy total: 15 Chest reward: Grains of the Spiritual Life Take out the Warlocks and Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas first and then use the Lunar's 360 Ultimate Technique to take care of the rest. ============================BOSS==================================== Round 5 enemies: Bone Skeleton 2 Red Gajas (minions) Round 5 enemy total: 9 Try to get right behind his leg and spam the Scythe's YYYY combo on him. A few of them should cause him to fall. From then on, constant YYYY combos should make him unable to hit you until his health is low. Even then, he will only be able to attack once or twice before he will be knocked down to be finished off. As long as you stay behind him, he will only be able to hit you with his spin, which can be blocked, or the beginning of his kick, which can be dodged. If he's becoming a problem during the beginning or near the end when he's able to get a hit or two in, you can use Inferno ninpo to help the process along. As long as you stay behind him, he should only be able to hit you with his spinning attack, which can be blocked. Although the Gajas could make this strategy fail if they were to attack often, they seem to leave you alone as long as you stay very close to the bone skeleton. Bring it down quickly so you don't have to worry about them. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 10 [M10]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: Archfiend 1 spiral Health bar: medium-small Ki slots: 2 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life and 1 Grain of Spiritual Life Round 1 enemies: 15 Fire Archers Round 1 enemy total: 15 You can choose to avoid them, but they're easy to take out and may hit you as you pass them. Round 2 enemies: 2 Warlocks 3 White Ninjas 3 Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas Round 2 enemy total: 8 Chest reward: Grains of the Spiritual Life The Warlocks and Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas should be your first targets. Round 3 enemies: 6 Explosive Archers Round 3 enemy total: 6 They are a good deal more difficult to approach than the Fire Archers, but are easy to take out in close range. Leaving them alive may not be a great idea. Round 4 enemies: 3 Red Gajas 3 Yellow Van Gelfs Round 4 enemy total: 6 Chest reward: Spirit of the Devils This can be a tricky enemy group considering the small space. In particular, watch out for the Yellow Van Gelfs' landing and the Red Gajas' tail smack. The Lunar's 360 Ultimate Technique can take care of both, although using Incendiary Shurikens on the Yellow Van Gelfs and following up with an Obliteration Technique works very well. Round 5 enemies: 7 Spriggans Round 5 enemy total: 7 The Windmill Shuriken's fully-charged Ultimate Technique will instantly kill them. Watch out for their cannon arms. It may not be the best strategy, but you could also lure them into jumping off the edge. Round 6 enemies: 2 Rasetsus Round 6 enemy total: 2 Chest reward: Lives of the Thousand Gods Your best bet is to fight them one at a time. Charge up an Ultimate Technique and release when one approaches you. Be extra careful for their Wind Blades move, as it can be a nuisance if one uses it while you're fighting the other. Round 7 enemies: 6 Yellow Van Gelfs Round 7 enemy total: 6 Incendiary Shurikens followed by Obliteration Techniques are your best bet here. They may end up flying off the edge, but it's not worth relying on. Round 8 enemies: 2 Fiend Ninjas 2 Fiend Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 2 Fiend Warlocks 2 Worms Round 8 enemy total: 8 Chest reward: Lives of the Thousand Gods The Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas and Warlocks should be your first targets. Use the essence to hit the worms with Ultimate Techniques. If you run out of essence with any worms still remaining, the Lunar's XYYY combo at close range will stun one long enough for you to move back to avoid its attack and repeat. Round 9 enemies: 4 Fiend Ninja Dogs Round 9 enemy total: 4 They don't seem to be too aggressive. Aerial combos work very well here, as do attacks that sweep around you. If all else fails, you can always skip past them. ============================BOSS==================================== Round 10 enemies: Dagra Dai Round 10 enemy total: 1 To dodge his pillar/laser move, turn off the lock-on and dodge back and forth underneath him. When he prepares the laser, dodge from one side of him to the other and he'll aim the laser at the side where you were previously. For his lightning move, use continuous Scythe aerial XXY combos. Not only will keeping off the ground allow you to completely avoid his attack, you will be able to deal significant damage to him. The best time to do damage to him is when he is "floating" around on his tentacles. Use that opportunity to get in a few powerful Scythe combos. The aerial ones seem less likely to cause him to teleport away. His Purple Van Gelf summon can be easily dealt with by using an Inferno ninpo on all of them, although leaving them alive until he drops down may be a better idea. If they're alive, he tends to do so more often. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 11 [M11]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: Chapter 9 Quetzalcoatl arena Health bar: medium Ki slots: 1 Ninpo levels: 2 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life and 1 Grain of Spiritual Life *Note: the Windmill Shuriken is not usable* Round 1 enemies: Rasetsu Fiend Rasetsu 6 Dragons Round 1 enemy total: 8 Chest reward: Jewel of the Demon Seal This tends to be the most difficult round of the mission. One of the reasons for this is that the two Rasetsus tend to use Wind Blades very frequently. Dodging them at a decent distance and luring them into your Ultimate Techniques is your best bet for clearing them out. Watch out for the Flying Dragons, as they may dive and set you up for being hit by the Rasetsus. Once the two Rasetsus are gone, use arrows to make short work of the Dragons. There is a corpse nearby with arrows. Round 2 enemies: 5 Humanoid Mechs Round 2 enemy total: 5 Chest reward: Spirit of the Devils Use the Lunar's 360 Ultimate Technique or Scythe's Ultimate Technique to take off their limbs and set them up for Obliteration Techniques. Be extra careful of their landing move and their ability to guard-lock you with their machine gun fire. Round 3 enemies: 2 Four-Leg Machine Gun Mechs 3 Hoverbots Round 3 enemy total: 5 Chest reward: Grains of Spiritual Life The Lunar's 360 Ultimate Technique or the Scythe's Ultimate Technique are your best bet for taking out the Four-leg Mechs. After that, use Lunar or Scythe aerial combos to take out the Hoverbots by locking them in place. ============================BOSS==================================== Round 4 enemies: 2 Quetzacoatls 5 Pill Bugs (minions) Round 4 enemy total: 27 *Note: minions skip the initial spawn* If you have a full ninpo slot, saved your Spirit of the Devils, and used your Jewel of the Demon Seal on the Void ninpo, you will be able to use Void 3 times on them. If they all land, you will take out one of them and a heavy portion of the other one. At that point, use arrows to finish it off. The minions can be troublesome in that there are a lot of them, but they're weak enemies and the arena is large. You may want to take them out before using arrows on the bosses so they don't sneak up on you, but you do have the advantage of a large arena. There are five minion spawns for this fight. Each spawn will occur once the total damage dealt between the two is around 16.66% of their life bars had they been combined. This means that, if you were to attack only one at once, every 33.33% of damage to it would cause another spawn. This also means that there will be a spawn when the first dies, but not the second. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 12 [M12]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: Alexi's Statue of Liberty arena Health bar: medium-small Ki slots: 3 Ninpo levels: 2 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life and 1 Grain of Spiritual Life ============================BOSS==================================== Round 1 enemies: Alexi Round 1 enemy total: 1 Chest reward: Grains of Spiritual Life Alexi is a very agile boss, which means learning how to dodge his moves is very important. His grabs are a top concern, although both can be dash-dodged with proper timing. Try to lure him into dashing and then hitting him with a powerful combo immediately after. You can also try to hit him with a powerful move while he's preparing his tornado or lightning orbs to stun him. From there, you can use the Flails' X attack repeatedly to beat him without any trouble. Keep in mind that you want just the X attack repeatedly, not an X-based combo. Also, even if you do stun him, he will occasionally break out of it too quickly for you to take advantage of it. A very quick way to beat him is to make use of the Kusari-gama's aerial YXY combo. If it fully hits him, it'll do massive damage. He's almost guaranteed to jab you as you fall, but you can then immediately dash backwards and Wind Run toward him to do it again. You can repeat this until he dies without being hit by anything other than his jab. ==================================================================== ============================BOSS==================================== Round 2 enemies: Volf Round 2 enemy total: 1 Chest reward: Lives of the Thousand Gods A very simple way to beat Volf as long as you practice the timing for it is to stun-lock him with the Scythe. Be very careful about waiting too long to attack him, though, or else he will repel you and you will fall directly in front of him, at which point he has a very high likelihood of dashing you. Volf can also be stunned as he either prepares or ends an attack. Any very quick attack that deals good damage may stun him, but the opening to stun him is very small. He will always remained stunned long enough to prepare the Flails. The disadvantage to this method is that you run the risk of being taken out by the dash if you time your dodge wrong. ==================================================================== ============================BOSS==================================== Round 3 enemies: Zedonius Round 3 enemy total: 1 Chest reward: Lives of the Thousand Gods Zedonius can be challenging due to the timing in dodging his attacks. It is possible to stun him with a Flying Swallow, although the timing is much more difficult. The easiest time to land it is when he's either preparing an attack or just as his fire beam attack ends. The easiest way to stun him is to wait for him to use the fire beam attack, dodge it in a circle around him at close range, and then Wind Path into a Flying Swallow just as he's about to end the attack. He will always remain stunned long enough to prepare the Flails. ==================================================================== ============================BOSS==================================== Round 4 enemies: Elizebet Round 4 enemy total: 1 Chest reward: Lives of the Thousand Gods Elizebet's quick attacks and frequent dashing make her a very strong boss that will put your dodging to the test. Elizebet, too, can be stunned. Hit her with a Flying Swallow as she is using her blood drain attack and she will fall down. she will always remain stunned long enough to prepare the Flails. The biggest problem with this method is that she will often block or dodge your Flying Swallow, leaving you dangerously vulnerable to her blood drain attack. Due to the small arena size, dodging her blood drain attack is very difficult. The best ways around it are to either keep her close by so she won't use it or go with the stun method. ==================================================================== ============================BOSS==================================== Round 5 enemies: Fiend Genshin Round 5 enemy total: 1 As always, Genshin can be beaten by blocking or dodging his combos and throwing in some of your own in between. Beware his teleporting slash, as he tends to counter you with it fairly often. Don't let him catch you in one of his combos or he may use his Underworld Drop for massive damage. Using a Wind Path into the Kusari-gama's YY aerial combo is very effective against him. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 13 [M13]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: small sewer tunnel from chapter 3 between two fans Health bar: medium Ki slots: 2 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life *Note: all damage is red* *Note: the Vigoorian Flails are not usable* Round 1 enemies: 2 White Ninjas 2 Black Spider Claw Ninjas 2 Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 2 Fire Archers 2 Warlocks Round 1 enemy total: 10 Take out the Warlocks first and then the Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas. After that, try to knock the Fire Archers into the fans for easy kills. With all ranged attackers gone, the other enemies should be simple. Round 2 enemies: 3 White Ninjas 3 Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 3 Warlocks Round 2 enemy total: 9 It's some of the same enemies from the previous round, so use the same strategies. If there's any essence left over, you can use it to thin out their numbers with Ultimate Techniques. Round 3 enemies: 6 Fire Archers Round 3 enemy total: 6 Since they're positioned against the fans, knock them in for easy kills. The Windmill Shuriken is good for this, but it may put you at risk for being hit in the process. Otherwise, try to get between the enemies and the fans to force them away. Regardless of what you choose, just be sure to not get hit by the fans. You can block a collision with them if you somehow end up there, but get away quickly if that's the case. Round 4 enemies: 6 Tac Ninjas 2 Rocket Ninjas 2 Multi-Rocket Ninjas Round 4 enemy total: 10 First, knock the Rocket Ninjas into the fan. Use an Incendiary Shuriken on the Multi-rocket Ninja to weaken and stun it and move in for a finishing combo. After that, clean up the rest of the enemies. Round 4 enemies: 2 Tac Ninjas 2 Rocket Ninjas 2 Warlocks 2 Silver Gajas 2 Red Gajas Round 4 enemy total: 10 Once again, knock the Rocket Ninjas into the fans and take those Warlocks out asap. After that, try to take out the Gajas quickly before they can cause a lot of damage to you. Quick methods include chaining Ultimate Techniques with the essence gained from the previous enemies and using the Lunar's aerial XXY Izuna Drop. Once they're gone, wipe out the Tac ninjas. Round 5 enemies: 5 Rocket Ninjas Round 5 enemy total: 5 The fans are your friends for these guys as always. Round 6 enemies: 2 White Ninjas 2 Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 2 Tac Ninjas 2 Rocket Ninjas 2 Warlocks Round 6 enemy total: 10 Very similar to the first round, but with Rocket Ninjas instead of Fire Archers. The same strategy applies. Round 7 enemies: 2 Fiend Ninjas 2 Fiend Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 2 Tac Ninjas 2 Fiend Warlocks 2 Rocket Ninjas Round 7 enemy total: 10 Enter Fiend enemy varieties. It's the same basic set up as the previous fight, but you'll want to use Ultimate Technique chains and power moves, such as the Izuna Drop, more often this time. Keep your distance, as the Fiend enemies have deadly throws. Round 8 enemies: 5 Fiend Warlocks Round 8 enemy total: 5 If you still have essence remaining, use it to wipe them all out with Ultimate Techniques to make your life easier. Otherwise, be very cautious of their teleportation, as they may move right next to you for a grab or combo. Keep mobile and prevent them from casting their magic. Round 9 enemies: 5 Fiend Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 5 Red Gajas Round 9 enemy total: 10 It really helps to save essence from the previous round and chain Ultimate Techniques to wipe these enemies out quickly. Otherwise, the Lunar's XXY aerial Izuna Drop for the Gajas will wipe out the heavy damage-dealers quickly. You could also use a Wind Blade ninpo to de-limb all the enemies and then use Obliteration Techniques on all of them. Round 10 enemies: 5 Multi-Rocket Ninjas Round 10 enemy total: 5 Go nuts with your Incendiary Shuriken supply here. Two will kill one enemy. Round 11 enemies: 5 Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas Round 11 enemy total: 5 Take them out as quickly as possible, as having them all gang up on you is not a good idea. Round 12 enemies: 5 Fiend Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas Round 12 enemy total: 5 A quick Wind Blade ninpo will de-limb them all for Obliteration Techniques. This is the final round, there's no need to hold back. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 14 [M14]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: top of the Daedalus from the very start of chapter 7 Health bar: medium Ki slots: 2 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life *Note: all damage is red* Round 1 enemies: 6 Black Spider Ninjas 6 Tac Ninjas Round 1 enemy total: 12 ...Ninjas! Round 2 enemies: 5 Black Spider Claw Ninjas 5 Purple Van Gelfs Round 2 enemy total: 10 Use the Lunar's 360 Ultimate Technique to quickly take care of the Van Gelfs. Kill the Ninjas for essence to use if you run out. Round 3 enemies: 6 Rocket Ninjas 6 Silver Gajas Round 3 enemy total: 12 Move in on the Rocket Ninjas and take them out first. After that, chain Ultimate Techniques with the essence left behind. Round 4 enemies: 3 Multi-Rocket Ninjas 3 Red Gajas Round 4 enemy total: 6 Use an Incendiary Shuriken to stun and damage a Multi-rocket Ninja and then move in for the kill. Once they're gone, clear out the Gajas with Ultimate Techniques. Round 5 enemies: 6 Brown Werewolves 6 Red Gajas Round 5 enemy total: 12 Chaining the Lunar's 360 Ultimate Technique works best here. Try to save essence from the previous fight to begin the chain immediately. Round 6 enemies: 4 Rocket Ninjas 4 Multi-Rocket Ninjas 4 Humanoid Mechs Round 6 enemy total: 12 Use all your Incendiary Shurikens to kill both types of Rocket Ninjas. It will take two to kill each one. After that, use the essence to hit the Mechs with either Lunar 360 or Scythe standard Ultimate Techniques. They will either kill your enemies or knock off a limb for an Obliteration Technique. Round 7 enemies: 4 Red Werewolves 4 Yellow Van Gelfs 4 Four-Leg Machine Gun Mechs Round 7 enemy total: 12 All enemy types are vulnerable to the Lunar's 360 Ultimate Technique. Also, if you have any Incendiary Shurikens remaining, using one on a Van Gelf will take off a limb for an Ultimate Technique. Scythe or Lunar aerial combos are good alternatives for taking out the Mechs. Round 8 enemies: 12 Fiend Ninja Dogs Round 8 enemy total: 12 Aerial or sweeping attacks work best here. If there is essence available, use the Lunar's 360 Ultimate Technique. Wind Blade ninpo is also effective here. Round 9 enemies: 4 Four-Leg Missile Mechs 4 Black Widows 4 Ghallas Round 9 enemy total: 12 Try to lure the Ghallas away from the other enemies and to take them out first, as they tend to be very aggressive. The Scythe's Ultimate Technique and aerial combos are both effective against them, but you'll need to be very careful with the timing to avoid their lunges. Inferno ninpo is a safe method against them if you have it available. If you lured the first two far enough away and the other two spawn and don't rush you, picking them off with Bow Ultimate Techniques will make this part much easier. After that, you can use the essence to chain Ultimate Techniques on the rest of the enemies. The Lunar's 360 Ultimate Technique will take out the Mechs and either de-limb or kill the Black Widows. Aerial combos are effective against the Mechs as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 15 [M15]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: Chapter 7 Armadillo arena Health bar: medium Ki slots: 2 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life and 2 Grains of Spiritual Life ============================BOSS==================================== Enemies: 2 Godomuses Enemy total: 2 This fight isn't so bad until you get to higher difficulties. Since two close-range slam moves can kill you in one hit on Master Ninja difficulty, it helps to be patient in when you attack and keep an eye on both of their attack patterns. As with fighting only one, strong combos from behind their feet while dodging their slams is your best bet. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mission 16 [M16]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Location: Chapter 13 Alexi arena Health bar: large Ki slots: 3 Ninpo levels: 3 Items: 3 Herbs of Spiritual Life and 3 Grains of Spiritual Life ============================BOSS==================================== Enemies: Genshin Elizebet Enemy total: 2 A very challenging fight, to say the least. One close-ranged powerhouse with one long-ranged powerhouse leads to a very balanced team that can slaughter you given the chance. It's really up to you as to which you choose to take out first, but Elizebet seems like the best first target for a few reasons. First, Genshin will be limited by his slow movement unless he's able to dash you out of the air. Second, Elizebet's teleport throw and blood drain attacks can be very dangerous and will be used frequently if you try to fight Genshin away from Elizebet. If they catch you between both their attacks, such as having them dash you at the same time, expect to see yourself lose a lot of health quickly. If you can take out one of them, the rest of the fight should go much more smoothly. Scythe aerials are a solid method against Elizebet as long as you keep away from Genshin. Since using them requires you to remain in a single position for a few seconds, he may be able to move in on your position during them. If he does and he begins to hit you consecutively with Elizebet, expect heavy damage. Once she's gone, you can beat Genshin the usual way. If you choose to take on Genshin first, be ready to break off fighting him to dodge Elizebet's two ranged attacks. Also, watch out for her dashing attacks and try to lure Genshin away from her if she gets too close. If you can take him out, you can fall back on the stun trick for Elizebet. ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~V. Survival Missions [SRV]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Karma Missions include missions 17-24. The objectives are to get the most kills and karma as possible before you are killed. There is no end to these missions, as the entire enemy cycle will loop once you beat them all. You will have no healing items, a medium health bar, 1 Ki slot, all ninpo at level 3, all ranged weapons except the Gatling Spear Gun, and the maxed out form of the weapon specifically for that Survival Mission. There are two brand-new stages specifically used for survival mode, as well as new music. All damage is red. The only way you'll be able to recover health is through blue essence. A medallion is earned for each 500,000 karma obtained on a mission. 500,000 for Iron, 1,000,000 for Bronze, 1,500,000 for Silver, and 2,000,000 for Gold. Once you have killed all enemy rounds in a Survival Mission, you will face Fiend Genshin with minions. Once you beat him, a chest will appear with Grains of the Spiritual Life and then you will face the entire set of rounds from the beginning again. The first rounds of enemies are equivalent to Acolyte difficulty, with each successive set of rounds being the next difficulty up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~General Strategies [GNS]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The key to getting high karma scores is to get your karma multiplier up to x5 as early as possible and then chaining fully-charged Ultimate Techniques for large amounts of karma. Stop using Ultimate Techniques or Obliteration Techniques when you are in need of blue essence or to maintain your karma multiplier. A lot of the stronger enemies will begin to appear as you approach 100 kills, which makes it all the more worthwhile to get your karma high early on. Plan the use of your Incendiary Shurikens for the tougher enemies that they work on. The Multi-Rocket Ninjas in particular are worth saving them for. The Windmill Shuriken's Ultimate Technique is a nice alternative for gaining quick karma if your weapon's Ultimate Technique is not getting karma quickly enough. The danger with it is that you are vulnerable while using it, so use it wisely. The Pill Bug and Skeleton Bug rounds are your chances to fill up on health and ninpo while also ensuring you end them with a full karma multiplier. Don't try to get karma out of them, especially considering they don't give any killing spree or instant kill bonuses. The Windmill Shuriken is a safe way to take them all out. When fighting Fiend Genshin with the first set, take out all the minions before focusing on him, as they're very powerful enemies to leave around. The minions in the second set aren't as big of a concern, although getting locked in place by their machine guns may be a problem. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Enemy Set 1 [ES1]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Used by: Mission 17 (True Dragon Sword) Mission 20 (Eclipse Scythe) Mission 21 (Blade of the Archfiend) Mission 22 (Kusari-gama) Round 1 enemies: 6 Black Spider Ninjas 6 Black Spider Claw Ninjas Round 1 enemy total: 12 Round 2 enemies: 4 Fire Archers 4 Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 4 Warlocks Round 2 enemy total: 12 Round 3 enemies: 6 Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 8 Ninja Dogs Round 3 enemy total: 14 Round 4 enemies: 4 Black Spider Ninjas 4 Black Spider Claw Ninjas 4 Brown Werewolves Round 4 enemy total: 12 Round 5 enemies: 8 Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 8 Silver Gajas Round 5 enemy total: 16 Round 6 enemies: Rasetsu 6 Red Gajas Round 6 enemy total: 7 Round 7 enemies: 20 Pill Bugs Round 7 enemy total: 20 Round 8 enemies: 12 Fiend Ninja Dogs Round 8 enemy total: 12 Round 9 enemies: 10 Fiend Warlocks 2 Humanoid Mechs Round 9 enemy total: 12 Round 10 enemies: 6 Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 6 Fiend Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 2 Ghallas Round 10 enemy total: 14 Round 11 enemies: 8 Fiend Warlocks 8 Spriggans Round 11 enemy total: 16 Round 12 enemies: 9 Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 4 Red Werewolf 3 Humanoid Mechs Round 12 enemy total: 16 Round 13 enemies: 8 Multi-Rocket Ninjas Round 13 enemy total: 8 ============================BOSS==================================== Round 14 enemies: Fiend Genshin 3 Fiend Warlocks (minions) Round 14 enemy total: 13 ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Enemy Set 2 [ES2]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Used by: Mission 18 (Vigoorian Flails) Mission 19 (Tonfas) Mission 23 (Falcon's Talons) Mission 24 (Lunar Staff) Round 1 enemies: 6 Black Spider Ninjas 6 Tac Ninjas Round 1 enemy total: 12 Round 2 enemies: 6 Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas 6 Rocket Ninjas Round 2 enemy total: 12 Round 3 enemies: 8 Tac Ninjas 4 Rocket Ninjas 4 Purple Van Gelfs Round 3 enemy total: 16 Round 4 enemies: 6 Purple Van Gelfs 10 Silver Gaja Round 4 enemy total: 16 Round 5 enemies: 8 Tac Ninja 4 Multi-Rocket Ninjas Round 5 enemy total: 12 Round 6 enemies: Fiend Rasetsu 4 Four-Leg Machine Gun Mechs Round 6 enemy total: 5 Round 7 enemies: 20 Skeleton Bugs Round 7 enemy total: 20 Round 8 enemies: 7 Red Gajas 3 Humanoid Mech Round 8 enemy total: 10 Round 9 enemies: 10 Rocket Ninjas 4 Green Van Gelfs Round 9 enemy total: 14 Round 10 enemies: 6 Fiend Warlocks 2 Hoverbots Round 10 enemy total: 8 Round 11 enemies: 6 Tac Ninjas 6 Rocket Ninjas 6 Multi-Rocket Ninjas Round 11 enemy total: 18 Round 12 enemies: 3 Four-Leg Missile Mech 3 Humanoid Mechs 6 Black Widows Round 12 enemy total: 12 Round 13 enemies: 8 Multi-Rocket Ninjas Round 13 enemy total: 8 ============================BOSS==================================== Round 14 enemies: Fiend Genshin 3 Tac Ninjas (minions) Round 14 enemy total: 13 ==================================================================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~VI. Glitches [GLT]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -Turning on the Ninja Cinema between enemy rounds may cause the next round to not spawn. To avoid this, turn it on during a round or have it on before beginning the mission. -Bosses may vanish at random and force you to start the mission over. If you try to lock-on to the boss, the camera will zoom off into the background, which you can break out of by turning the lock-on off. There is no known way to prevent this from occuring, but it is very rare. -In certain missions, enemies may get stuck in the background and will either be unable to act while stuck or will end up moving into the background and attacking from there. You can knock a stuck enemy out of it to have it resume fighting you, but enemies that fall back into the background may be too far back to be hit by certain attacks. Use attacks with long range to kill them. This seems to happen most often in Survival Missions, where Humanoid Mechs will get stuck and Rocket Ninjas will fall back into the background. -While fighting Genshin, he may completely stop moving. Hitting him will bring him back to normal. This may also happen with regular enemies, although it is much less common. -In mission 10 on Master Ninja difficulty, if you don't kill all round 1 Fire Archers, you will be trapped by the two force fields at the end of round 4 and will have to start the mission over. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~VII. Frequently Asked Questions [FRQ]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Should I buy Mission Mode? Is it worth the 800 Microsoft Points? This is a tough question to answer, as not everyone will enjoy it. Personally, I love the added challenge and the way some of the missions set the enemies up. There's certain aspects of it that take advantage of possibilities not explored in the main game. You should, however, ask yourself a few questions before making this decision. Are you willing to face some of the most challenging combat that this game can possibly throw at you? Does the game feel replayable enough where, even with 24 missions, you'll enjoy doing the same ones multiple times? Are you willing and/or able to learn the use of all 8 weapons to make the most of the Survival Missions? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Are there any major glitches that will make Mission Mode unplayable? No. The only glitch that could possibly make it unplayable would be the achievement glitch, but it was fixed within a day or two of Mission Mode's launch. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Why didn't I get the achievement for getting all Bronze medallions in survival missions? Make sure you actually got Bronze and not Iron. The color of the medallion should actually be bronze. Also, your karma total should exceed one million. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your strategy didn't work for ________, I still can't beat it! As I stated in the intro, I don't expect my strategies to work for everyone. I do plan to keep updating this guide as I come across more methods to use, but it's just as helpful for you to play around with different methods. Try out different weapons and combos and see what works. You might be surprised at how much better you'll do once you find a strategy that suits your play style. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Arggh, how do you beat this mission? It's just too hard! I feel like throwing my controller through the wall! There's two pieces of advice I can give you for this scenario. First, take a break from either that mission or the game. Do something else for a while and then come back to it once you've calmed down. Getting frustrated will only cause you to lose your focus, making it even less likely that you'll win. Second, know your limits. Some of these missions offer an insane level of challenge, especially on Master Ninja difficulty. Sometimes, it's better to simply acknowledge that it might be too hard for you and skip it. There's no shame in that and, quite frankly, a few extra little gamerpoints are not worth the trouble. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~VIII.
