This submission is mainly just to let people get a taste of what this guide will be like. ______________________________________________________________________________ 2] CONTROLS [0200] ______________________________________________________________________________ .-----------------------------.----------------------------------------------. | D-Pad | Switch Weapons | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Left Analog Stick | Move | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Right Analog Stick | Look (Click to Zoom) | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Start | Pause | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Back | Skip Cinematic | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | X Button | Use/Interact | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Y Button | Point of Interest | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | A Button | Take Cover/Evade/Mantle | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | B Button | Melee/Tag | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Right Trigger | Shoot/Throw Grenade | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Left Trigger | Aim | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Right Bumper | Reload | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Left Bumper | See Objectives and Squad Status | '-----------------------------'----------------------------------------------' - ADVANCED CONTROLS - * Press the Right Bumper to reload. Reloading in Gears of War is unique and sometimes a pain. Once hit, a small white bar will go from left to right across the reload meter (see diagram below). _______.-.____________________________ |_______| |_________|__________________| '-' C-^ A-^ ^-B ^--C Press the Right Bumper to stop the bar. If you time your button pressing so the bar stops in the large rectangle (Point "A"), then you will achieve a Perfect Reload. A Perfect Reload reloads your gun the fastest and will give your weapon a slight damage increase for a small period of time. If you stop the bar in the gray area to the right (Point "B"), you'll reload your gun with no trouble (but slower than if you achieved a Perfect Reload). If you stop the bar anywhere else (Point "C") or do not stop the bar at all, your gun will be jammed and it'll take several seconds for your gun to reload. Not the best option when in the middle of combat. * Press and hold A to Roadie Run. In the first game, it was difficult to move or turn when running, but it is much easier to maneuver in Gears of War 2. * Press the Right Trigger without aiming to fire from the hip. Since there is no targeting reticule for your convenience, it's very inaccurate. When in cover, press the Right Trigger without aiming for blind fire. It keeps you protected from enemy fire, but is even less accurate than the previous. * When an enemy is crawling on the ground (best achieved by aiming for their legs), you can pull off three different stunts. Press X next to their body to perform a curbstomp. Press Y to use an extended kill (most weapons let you simply punch them to death, but using the Longshot, Boltok Pistol, Torque Bow, and Boomshield will yield different results). If an enemy is down but not out, press A next to them to use them as a meatshield. You'll use their body as cover, giving you cover while you can continue to attack (with a pistol). When the enemy's assistance is not needed, press X to snap their neck. * When near cover, press A to automatically lean up against it. Use the Left Analog Stick to move away from the cover. Move towards the cover and press A to mantle the cover (jump over it). To roll out from cover, press the direction you want to roll, then A. You can also slip around the corner of cover the same way: use the Left Analog Stick in the direction you want to move, then press A to sneak around the corner. If there is cover directly next to you, press A when moving the Left Analog Stick towards said cover to perform a SWAT turn. * If you are shot enough times, you will be "killed". In single player mode (or in areas where you are separated from your partner), you will die and that will be that. Tough luck. If you are in co-op mode and are killed, you will be "down but not out". When in this "mode", your player will be slumped on the ground and can crawl around for help with the Left Analog Stick. Repeatedly press A to crawl faster and use the Right Trigger to signal for help. (press the Right Trigger with a grenade in your hand to detonate it, possibly taking a few enemies out with you). You can't crawl around forever, because you will eventually bleed out and die if no one revives you in time. ______________________________________________________________________________ 3] WALKTHROUGH [0300] ______________________________________________________________________________ NOTE: This walkthrough is based on the Hardcore difficulty. ============================================================================== 3.1] TIP OF THE SPEAR [0310] ============================================================================== =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 3.11] WELCOME TO DELTA [0311] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Collectibles: 2 [2/41] As the game starts, you will be given the option to train Carmine. No, not that Carmine; this is Ben Carmine. Training the rook will also give new and inexperienced players a taste of the game (plus the option to get a nice collectible), so it may not be such a foul idea. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Skip Training ------------- If you skip your training session, you will automatically go to the next chapter. If you have already completed the game once before and obtained the two collectibles, then this is the desired option. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Train ----- Slowly walk down the street and get familiarized with the controls. Try out your Tac/Com by pressing the Left Bumper: it turns the screen gray and shows the location of all your allies. Pretty helpful when in big firefights or if you're trying to locate a fallen friend. Watch as Fenix teaches the rook on how to take cover and do it yourself. - Collectible 1: The Eagle Newspaper As Carmine tries to find cover, take note of the flashing piece of paper on the ground, just past the overturned desk. Pick it up for the first of 41 collectibles. After Jack finishes opening the steel gate, barge through. Take cover near the left and practice shooting the bottles lined on the rubble. Follow the basic commands on the screen until an unexpected noise interrupts the squad. Go around the car and pass by the shooting range. When the point of interest appear, press and hold Y to spot a Wretch inside a building. Jump over the ledge and approach the gate. Press X to kick it open like the badass you are. Pick up the Bolo Grenades in the basketball court and move forward. As the Wretch peeks out from the window above, aim and toss a Bolo Grenade inside to kill it. The rook will try his hand at throwing a grenade with disastrous results. If your crew dies, approach their bodies and press X to revive them. Roadie Run to the garage entrance and use your Lancer's chainsaw to break through the wooden barrier. You'll witness some vehicles drive across the highway at the top of the garage. Once the chit-chat ceases, use your point of interest to locate the ladder and slide down. Take note of the road to the hospital. - Collectible 2: Ambulance Driver's Log Before following the road to the hospital, turn around and enter the small garage. Pick up the paper off of the floor to the left. It's in front of the desk and thus pretty hard to miss. Return to your men and follow the road to your destination. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 3.12] DESPERATION [0312] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Collectibles: 5 [7/41] As the mission starts, walk through the automatic door to meet up with Tai Kaliso. Not sure if he's Native American or Samoan or what, but he's certainly certified "badass". Follow Tai up the stairs and into the next room. As the door opens, take a left and take cover at the windows overlooking the courtyard below. Wait for the Locust to burst into the courtyard and let them situate in the center (conveniently next to the group of explosive canisers). When Tai says the word, shoot the canisters to send the whole battalion to kingdom come. Head through the opened door and meet up with Tai and random soldier #2749. - Collectible 3: Doctor's Journal There is an open ward on the left side of the room overlooking a courtyard. Head inside to find a collectible beside the poor rustlung patient. Follow Tai and pick up the ammo box from the ground as you enter the next room of the hospital. You'll find yourself in your very first firefight as some Drones storm the left walkway. Remember the Golden Rule: use the gurneys and desks as cover or you'll get ripped apart. Peek out every once in a while to plug the Locust. Tai and Dom will take care of the Drones on the bottom floor. Once they are killed, enter the hallway in front. A King Raven will take care of the enemies in the hall, so take cover and watch the blood spill. Two Locust Drones will take cover in the next room. Use the gurney in the center of the room as cover and vanquish both. A third will be in the corridor to the right, so do him in as well. There are Bolo Grenades in the side room on the left. Descend the stairs to find the reception room. Take down the two Drones inside and you'll hear a gnarly guitar riff signifying that the danger is gone. - Collectible 4: Jacinto Medical Center File In the reception room, go around the circular reception desk in the middle to find the document. Follow Tai and Dom down the hall to the courtyard. After killing four or so Drones (use the explosive tanks in the room on the right for help), a Reaver will land. It's best to take cover as it lands and ignore the beast until it eventually flies away. Go up the stairs, take the ammo, and continue onward. Take a right and follow the hall to Recovery Room 1. The two Drones inside shouldn't stand a chance. Follow the hall towards the cafeteria. - Collectible 5: COG Letterhead There is a small room to the left of the cafeteria. Fit inside to find the letterhead near the computer. Hide behind the food-filled counters and slowly ascend towards the sides. It's very easy to flank your enemies in a room this size. Search the room for ammo once the coast is clear and approach your group just as a helicopter crashes through the skylight. Ignore the pilot's screams as he burns alive and go up the stairs to the left. Eliminate the two Drones upstairs and enter the main lobby. - Collectible 6: COG Proclamation From the entrance of the main lobby, go to the right and follow the walkway to a dead end, where the document lies next to an ammo box. Walk with your gang to the center of the lobby just as the power goes out. As Jack tries to open the door in front of you, some Locust will storm the lobby. As they hide behind the pillars, use Bolo Grenades (there are some at the top floor of the lobby) to scare them out of hiding and dispose of them with your Lancer or Hammerburst. Some more will appear on the opposite side of the lobby, so exterminate them as well. Go through the newly-opened door after the enemies are dead to find a scared Carmine. As the door opens, head outside just as a soldier gets his head blown off. - Collectible 7: COG Tag CSID:085177-MJ3V5-PB As soon as you exit the hospital, search behind the pillar to the right to find the shiny tags in plain sight. Hide behind the pillars on either side of the staircase and shoot the Locust below. Ignore the Reaver that stops and leaves in due time. Once the handful of Drones are killed, run down the stairs and take cover. Try to get a meatshield if possible so you can clear the next section with little difficulty. Fenix tells the gang to enter the nearby store to flank the enemies. Go inside to find ammo and follow the gang. If you are in possession of a meatshield, you can simply walk down the road and gun everybody down. Meet up with the squad and continue down the road, taking down the Drones and using cover when needed. The chapter will end once all the Locust down here have been eliminated. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 3.13] ROLLING THUNDER [0313] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Collectibles: 2 [9/41] NOTE: The rest of the walkthrough is coming soon. ______________________________________________________________________________ 4] COLLECTIBLES [0400] ______________________________________________________________________________ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- TIP OF THE SPEAR =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to Delta ---------------- - Collectible 1: The Eagle Newspaper As Carmine tries to find cover, take note of the flashing piece of paper on the ground, just past the overturned desk. The Lancer may resemble a generic machine gun at first glance. This automatic weapon can tear Locusts to shreds in a jiffy and is standard among COG soldiers. Most people recognize the Lancer from its chainsaw bayonet on the end of the gun. Hold B to rev the chainsaw, and once close enough to an unsuspecting enemy, watch as you tear into their body and proceed to brutally dismember them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snub Pistol ----------- The Snub Pistol is a small, weak gun that really isn't all that useful. While it has a quick firing speed, the shots aren't that powerful and the low magazine count causes you to reload often. The Snub Pistol should really only be used as a last resort or if you're really trying to conserve ammo (by using it on weak enemies, like Tickers). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gnasher ------- Don't be intrigued by its interesting name: this is your run-of-the-mill shotgun found in nearly every first-person shooter. Needless to say, it should be used in close quarters and only in close quarters. When used right next to an enemy, the Gnasher Shotgun can easily blow them to bits. Otherwise, keep it off to the side. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Longshot -------- The Longshot is perfect for a game like this. Take cover, then quickly sit up and use your sniper rifle for a quick and devastating hit. The Longshot is a deadly weapon that is even deadlier when in the hands of experts. While aiming, click the Left Analog Stick to zoom in. While you should always aim for the head when using a weapon of this calibur, hitting a target anywhere else will deal great damage. The only downside to the Longshot is that you must reload after every shot you take. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Scorcher -------- This COG flamethrower is capable of barbequing enemies with little effort. Unfortunately, the Scorcher has a fairly close range, but that can be reversed by performing a perfect Active Reload. Since the Scorcher has no ammo, it shares traits such as turrets whereas after constant use, the weapon will heat up. Press and hold the Right Bumper to cool it down so you can continue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hammer of Dawn -------------- The Hammer of Dawn is nothing like a conventional hammer. This nifty tool actually fires a small red laser that does no harm. In fact, the laser pinpoints the location of the area to a travelling satellite, which fires an imulsion beam on said target. Use the Hammer of Dawn to create a laser pointer, then watch as a giant beam of light rains down seconds later. Hold the Right Trigger down to continue the attack and move to control the laser. Nothing can stand in the way of the Hammer of Dawn. Unfortunately, you only find the weapon in the final parts of the game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hammerburst ----------- The Hammerburst is a Locust weapon and is sometimes noted as the counterpart to the Lancer. It has been revamped in Gears of War 2 and now fires a single shot, though the gun fires faster the longer you hold down the trigger. Its single-round fire coupled with the ability to zoom (click the Left Analog Stick when aiming) makes the Hammerburst a deadly accurate weapon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Boltok Pistol ------------- The Boltok Pistol is a Locust weapon that greatly outmatches the Snub Pistol. The very slow rate of fire can be a pain, but each bullet comes with so much force that you can shoot a target's head clean off with a well-aimed shot. It sounds strange, but this weapon is actually a nice alternative to the Longshot. Not only can you pull off a headshot easily with the Boltok Pistol, but the ability to zoom in makes your task that much easier. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gorgon Pistol ------------- The Gorgon Pistol, held by the Kantus monks, is a very unique weapon. The pistol fires in short bursts. After each quick burst, you will have to wait a second or two before firing another round (each rounds is a burst of three or four shots). The firing speed is a problem, but the pistol is surprisingly powerful. It's kind of a love/hate thing, so you may want to try out the Gorgon Pistol to see if it's for you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Torque Bow ---------- This weapon basically fires grenades at targets. Similar to using grenades, aiming the Torque Bow shows the trajectory of the imulsion-tipped arrow. Hold the Right Trigger down to "charge" the weapon, which straightens the trajectory and makes the shot go farther. This method of aiming makes for a more precise shot, but it's hard to not notice the bright orange glow emanating from the bow. Nevertheless, the familiar "clank" of the bow entering one's body is only followed by shocked and obscene gestures as the target quickly explodes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Boomshot -------- Carried by Boomers, the Boomshot is a heavy grenade launcher that strikes fear into the eyes of all but the wielder. It is not very accurate, but the powerful splash damage makes up for it. If the initial explosion doesn't deliver the final blow, it can certainly scatter groups of Locust. Since it is a grenade launcher, there is a slight arc; always aim slightly above the target before firing. The Boomshot is only carried by Boomers and thus is very rare, so it may only be worth for a handful of shots. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Boomshield ---------- No, the Boomshield isn't found in the hands of Boomers. These giant shields are actually found equipped by Maulers. Once you have your hand on the Boomshield, you can use it as cover by aiming (the Left Trigger). While aiming, you can press A to plant it in the ground and further use it as a form of cover (you can then pick it up again if desired). Since the Boomshield is not a weapon, you automatically carry a pistol with it. You only find this useful tool a handful of times, so always take the Boomshield wherever you go. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mulcher ------- The Mulcher is basically a Troika that you can carry around in your hands. While carrying around this massive weapon, your movements will be sluggish, which can prove costly in a firefight. After the initial one second startup, let the Mulcher rip as it cuts through enemies like a hot knife through butter. Like turrets, the Mulcher can heat up and requires a brief cooldown period by pressing the Right Bumper. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mortar ------ The Mortar is easily the most catastrophic weapon in the game aside from the Hammer of Dawn (I shouldn't cound the latter since you barely get to play with it). While carrying around this massive weapon, your movements will be sluggish, which can prove costly in a firefight. To begin use, you must set the distance the mortar shots travel. Hold down the Right Trigger to open a small graph. As you continue to hold down the button, the graph will move up, indicating the increase of distance the shots will travel. Let go at any time to set a distance and fire. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bolo Grenade ------------ Notably known as the "Frag Grenade", the Bolo Grenade is swung on its chain like a jump rope. As you hold the Right Trigger, a purple line shows its trajectory, which can be maneuvered on your own free will. The Bolo Grenades unleash a powerful (yet surprisingly small) blast. You do need to be precise with your aiming to make your efforts useful. If next to an enemy with a grenade in your hand, press B to stick it on them, signifying their certain doom. You can also stick it on walls and objects to use as a landmine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ink Grenade ----------- No, it doesn't release ink. The Ink Grenade are used by Kantus and actually spews out lethal toxins that can hinder a target and shorten their life every breath they take of it. If you are hit with an Ink Grenade and stay in the poison, it will only take a few short moments to perish. The obvious solution is to move away from the field. The Ink Grenades are best used against slow enemies. If next to an enemy with a grenade in your hand, press B to stick it on them, signifying their certain doom. You can also stick it on walls and objects to use as a landmine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Smoke Grenade ------------- Smoke Grenades are only found in multiplayer mode and are fairly useless. The grenades release a thick cloud of smoke that can hinder your sight, which isn't that devastating when you have a targeting reticule in the middle of your screen. If next to an enemy with a grenade in your hand, press B to stick it on them, which can stun them, knocking them to the ground. You can also stick it on walls and objects to use as a landmine. ______________________________________________________________________________ 6] UNLOCKABLES [0600] ______________________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Insane Difficulty ----------------- Ready to go insane? ______________________________________________________________________________ 8] BESTIARY [0800] ______________________________________________________________________________ ============================================================================== 8.1] ENEMIES [0810] ============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Drone ----- Drones are your average cannon fodder found in Gears of War 2. Their status in the game are further described by the COGs' frequent use of the word "grub" in reference to them. The standard Drones are found in 95% of the game and carry Hammerbursts, Boltok Pistols, and the occasional Lancer. They can be taken down easily and without much effort. Drones are smart enemies and use proper techniques when in battle, such as taking cover, reviving downed enemies, and so forth. The gunner Drones have black helmets on, which gives them added protection from headshots. They wield Hammerbursts, but are primarily found behind Troikas. Aside from having headwear, they are no different than the standard Drones. Snipers wear bright goggles and clearly carry Longshots along with them. Since sniper Drones are often found in far away or difficult spots to reach, you best target them with a Longshot of your own. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wretch ------ Carmine puts it best when he describes Wretches as a cross between a monkey and a dog. These lanky little freaks walk with a strange hunch/limp, but can be quite agile and are best at jumping up at people when they least expect it. On the contrary, Wretches tend to make their presence known by emitting an ear piercing shriek. Wretches are weak and carry no weapons, but are fast and come in large groups. They have no problem gaining ground and scratching one's eyes out, so trying to keep them at bay is your goal. However, if you fight Wretches in close quarters, use melee attacks: it will kill them in one hit. They're weak, I tell ya! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nemacyst -------- Nemacyst are small, flying bombs that are commonly released by Seeders. They are found in only a few instances in the game; you usually have access to a turret of sorts and can shoot them down from below. Sometimes Nemacysts float in the air without movement, so look for the jellyfish Locust and blast them out of the skies. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Brumak ------ Brumaks are seen in Gears of War, but never encountered as the player. Fortunately, this changes in Gears of War 2. You will cross paths with many Brumaks in this game. These giant T-Rex... things not only have cannons on their wrists, but wield missile launchers on their backs. These giant beasts are very hard to take down, which is why you always have some form of great assistance when you find one (turrets, cannons, or mortars). With the former, aim for the cannons on its wrist and back. For the latter, it can pulverize the big guys. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Corpser ------- While you fight a Corpser by yourself in the first game, you don't have to worry about these giant spider Locust in this one. They are only encountered in two chapters, and both times you are riding a vehicle. Just shoot them in the face with your turret/cannon. >_> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ticker ------ It's hard to describe the physical appearance of a Ticker. They're like a cross between a rat and an insect; small little freaks with twig-like legs. They are speedy buggers that happen to have explosive flame tanks strapped to their backs; if one gets close to you, they will pause and ignite (like grenades with legs!). Tickers are always found in small groups and make a distinct ticking, clicking noise (hence their name I suppose). Their erratic movements make them deadly and one of the more annoying enemies, but since they can be destroyed in one shot, use your weakest weapons when dealing with Tickers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Reaver ------ Reavers are basically flying octopi that are usually accompanied by two Locust drivers/gunners. Their tough skin makes them very durable enemies and can fire large missiles (can't confirm if they shoot Nemacysts or not) that can deal massive damage if directly hit. Aside from that, the two Locusts can attack at will. You can damage Reavers when they fly or land on the ground. While it makes sense to target the beasts themselves, it is actually best to target the one or two Locust on top. Once they are killed, the Reaver mysterious dies along with them (for whatever reason), so they should be your main targets. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Boomer ------ Boomers are slightly larger and bulkier than Drones and carry Boomshots with them into battle. They are usually found in pairs and also commanding small fleets of Locust. Boomers are fairly unintelligent and lumber forwards without any cause for their health. They don't need any cause for concern, because they are incredibly durable and even take three or more headshots to kill one. Boomers like to shout "boom!" before firing their signature Boomshot, which certainly makes your job easier. Since it takes so much ammo to take a Boomer down, take advantage of their lack of speed and frag tag them for the easy (and amusingly messy) win. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rockworm -------- Rockworms aren't enemies per se, but denizens of The Hollow. These large worms have a stony exoskeleton and can be used for cover. They are particularly fond of glowing red fruit, so shoot them down from ceilings or walls to attract a Rockworm out of its caves and providing you some makeshift cover. In fact, they're more like indirect allies. Rockworms cannot be killed and do not hurt you, but you can be killed by one if you get too close to its face. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kantus ------ Strangely enough, Kantus are actually a clan of Locust monks. They are found underground and are dressed in red robes and hats. They come equipped with Gorgon Pistols and Ink Grenades, which makes them surprisingly annoying. Try to take them out quickly before they can throw Ink Grenades your way. For whatever reason it may be, Kantus sometimes like to stand in plain sight and scream for several seconds, arms outstretched. It certainly makes them stand out in a firefight and gives you an opportunity for a quick headshot. Kantus aren't really different from Drones aside from their weapons of choice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Grinder ------- Grinders are helmeted Boomers that carry around Mulchers. Like Boomers, they shout out "grind!" before using their weapon. Grinders are much more powerful than Boomers due to their weapon and can tear you apart if you do not take cover. Since you never want to face one in the open, the option of frag tagging one is out of the picture. Stick to targeting the head or using conventional weapons to take down a Grinder. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bloodmount ---------- Bloodmounts are strange creatures that are ridden by Locusts like horses. They are fast and capable if slicing you up with the scythes on their tiny arms. The easiest way to take out a Bloodmount is to use a grenade or Boomshot to take out both it and its rider. Otherwise, just target the Bloodmount with any powerful weapon before it can get close to you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Flame Grenadier --------------- These Locust are highly armored and carry around Scorchers. They are usually found leading small Locust groups by themselves and are always in the front of the line. Always keep your distance to avoid getting torched and aim for their backpacks. Since their helmets rule out the idea of an easy headshot, shoot imulsion-filled backpacks to cause the Flame Grenadiers to erupt in flames. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sire ---- Very little is known about the Sires -- just what they are or where they came from -- but they are hostile. The Sires were released from their pods in the New Hope Research Facility and immediately attack Delta Squad. These strange monsters have no weapons and use their claws to attack. Since their primary form of attack is pathetically weak, save your ammo and chainsaw each and every one to death. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mauler ------ While they look like armored Boomers, Maulers are a bigger threat. Maulers look like medieval knights as they are coated from head to toe in armor, carrying large Boomshields and an explosive mace. If you get too close, they will slam the mace to the ground, resulting in a huge explosion and the near certainty of your death. Stay the heck back when dealing with these chumps. Due to the size of their Boomshield, targeting Maulers can be a real chore. Sometimes they hold the shield above their head, exposing their entire body. Nevertheless, damaging them is a real pain and like the Boomers, tagging them with a Bolo Grenade is probably your best plan of action. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Seeder ------ While Seeders were a prominent feature in Gears of War, only two are seen in the game. They are found in the chapter where you happen to be piloting a Centaur tank, so destroying them requires no effort. Shoot them down with your cannon before they can shoot explosive Nemacysts your way. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Theron Guard ------------ Only Theron Guards have Torque Bows, so you'll know you have encountered one if you see that familiar orange glow. However, that is not the only weapon they possess: Lancers, Boltok Pistols, Gorgon Pisols, and even Gnashers. In fact, they are the only Locust that can carry more than one weapon at a time and frequently switch during battles. Theron Guards are heavily armored than Drones or Kantus and are a bit tougher to take down than the previous two, and also are a lot more intelligent than the other enemies you face in the game. Theron Guards should not be taken lightly, because their skilled use of a Torque Bow can easily result in your immediate death. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Butcher ------- The disgruntled cafeteria workers of the Locust horde, Butchers use their massive meat cleavers to execute and distribute Rockworms as a food source throughout The Hollow. However, they will put their knife skills to use if threatened. Butchers are nearly identical to Boomers aside from their bloody apron (virtually no armor) and meat cleaver. Butchers are slower than Boomers and are even less intelligent; slowly walking down corridors and rooms without a cause in the world. Since their only form of combat is incredibly short-range, keep your distance and blow them away as they nonchalontly walk towards you. Even if you do come face to face with a Butcher, just frag tag the poor saps. Only a handful of these guys are found late in the game. ============================================================================== 8.2] BOSSES [0820] ============================================================================== ______________________________________________________________________________ 9] THANKS/CREDITS [0900] ______________________________________________________________________________ Of course, this guide couldn't have been made without some extra help.
