When shooting a jump shot in NBA 2k11 you first pull back on the right analogue stick. Then you will push the right stick forward to release the shot.

That's a free throw. You hold on to the B button and let go when the ball is at the peak of the shot.

All you got to do is hold x and let go (on x box 360) or push the right stick down the up.
