Instead of setting the game to peaceful, there are other ways of killing creatures.

Zombies, Skeletons, and Spiders. Use dogs and/or a sword. Friends can help if you are ambushed. For Spiders, if you plan to let your dog do all the work, have more than one, cause the dog will die before the spider does.

Creepers. Cats, tamed or not, are the key to getting rid of creepers. If you are working, keep a cat around you, and no creeper will come close.

Enderman. Grab all the dogs you can, and/or friends and take him down without mercy. Water also hurts the Enderman.
