If you play online this may help you. But anyways you can pick up stuff by pressing LB, and you can also pick up objects like grenades.

By picking up a grenade, you run up to the grenade as fast as possible, click LB, and can choose either to:

-Throw it back

or:

-Take it by switching to another weapon
