Question for Red Dead Revolver

Do you need to get an excellent on levels to unlock some multiplayer character or can you unlock all characters by just playing multiplayer

P.S I want to unlock Professor Perry !

Yes some people you have to unlock getting excellent I think you have to get excellent to get professor perry
