1: T-34 (Soviet Union)
The Soviet T-34 is widely acknowledged as the most effective, efficient and influential tank design of World War II. The T-34 was a medium tank which possessed an unprecedented combination of firepower, mobility, protection and ruggedness. Over 40,000 were built and it saw service mainly on the Eastern Front where it fought against invading German tank commanders and it wasn't until the later stages of the war that its armour and armament were surpassed.
2: M26 Pershing Tank (United States)
This U.S. built heavy tank entered service in the later stages of World War II. A total of 2212 were built and it was used during the invasion of Germany. It was initially built as a replacement for the M4 Sherman where it was better armoured and had a more powerful main gun. The M26 Pershing was the most powerful tank ever to be used in battle during World War II where it was designed to be a match for Germany's Tiger and Panther tanks.
3: Comet I A34 (United Kingdom)
Widely acknowledged as the best British tank in World War II the Comet I A34 was a cruiser tank capable of traversing through rough forest terrain and roaming German Autobahns with ease. It was was relieable and quick and had a powerful main gun that was effective against the German heavy tanks. Initially built to replace the Cromwell the Comet I A34 saw service in the closing stages of World War II and the Korean War, it is remembered as the first true British medium tank intended to operate independently of infantry.
4: MK V Panther (Germany)
The Panzerkampfwagen V Panther was developed from studies of a captured Russian T-34 tank. A total of 6334 MK V Panther tanks were built, they had speed, off-road capabilities, protection, sophisticated targeting sights and a main gun that was powerful enough to cripple any allied tank. The MK V Panther entered service towards the end of World War II and was one of the best balanced designs of the war where it performed accordingly, with a fear capital almost rivaling that of the Tiger.
5: M4 Sherman Tank (United States)
This medium tank was the second most produced tank during World War II and served in numerous battles and campaigns. It was a reliable well rounded tank with good mobility and speed that was relatively cheap to produce. The M4 Sherman had an average main gun and relatively thin armour compared to other tanks in the era. The M4 Sherman was initially the result of an urgent U.S. Army requirement during the World War II for a main battle tank that could match top-of-the-line German Panzers.
