Windbound Beginners Guide for Windbound

Windbound Beginners Guide

Gather Resources

When you begin Windbound Kara only has a few garments of clothing and a dagger to her name so your first priority is to gather whatever resources you can find. It is especially important that you find food otherwise Kara will starve. As you progress through the game collecting resources Kara will learn more crafting options which she will benefit from. Always try picking up a new material or hunt a new animal when you see one in order to unlock these crafting options.

Always Cook Meat

It is important that Kara does not eat raw meat as doing so will make her temporarily sick and in this state you will find her difficult to maneuver. It is essential that you always cook your meat on a fire before consuming it. Cooking takes a while so ensure you give yourself enough time for the meat to cook without allowing Kara to die of hunger.

Craft a Cooking Rack

One of the first things you should do is craft a Cooking Rack as doing so will enable you to cook/craft three things at once at your fire which will mean you won't have to worry as much about Kara's hunger level increasing while she waits for food. A Cooking Rack can be easily crafted in Windbound by making a Fire, interacting with it, and then adding two Sticks and three Thick Grass to make the Cooking Rack.

Craft a Bamboo Canoe

After you have crafted your Cooking Rack you need to make some kind of boat in order to discover new islands. You will be able to craft a simple Bamboo Canoe with the following materials:

- One Grass Rope

This is made from two Thick Grass. It can be crafted in the survival section of the crafting menu.

- Three Bamboo

These can be found near sporadic, gray-coloured trees. Kara can chop them down with her knife.

Adding a mast to your Bamboo Canoe will make navigating the seas easier as you can use the wind's help. To add a grass mast you will need the following resources:

- One Grass Rope

- Two Thick Grass

- One Stick

These are small, slim trees that are located on every island. Use Kara's knife to chop hem down.

It is worthwhile adding a mast to your Bamboo Canoe as it will also allow Kara to explore further before growing hungry.

Escape Dangerous Land Animals

If you encounter a dangerous land animal and do not have the capability to take it down you can always escape it by running to the beach, jumping into your Bamboo Canoe, and selecting 'Sail'. Land-dwelling animals cannot follow you into the sea so you will be safe there, you then have the option of either waiting for the animal to lose interest in your or sail to another location.

Craft a Bag

Kara will only be able to hold seven iems in her inventory when you start Windbound which can quickly become a problem while foraging and scavenging. In order to give Kara additional item slots you should craft a bag. You can add 7 slots to Kara's inventory by crafting a Palm Bag:

- Two Grass Rope

- Five Palm Frond

The most useful bag to craft is the Food Bag which adds 12 slots to Kara's inventory and will preserve food longer. To craft this bag you will need:

- 2 Palm Frond

- 2 Sealily

- 1 Silk Thread

- 2 Bloodbristle

Search the Islands for Food

Whenever you find a new island the first thing you need to do is start foraging for food to prevent Kara from dying from lack of nutrition. The type of food she will be able to eat will depend on the island. Some will have plenty of mushrooms to keep her satiated while on others she will be forced to hunt wild animals. Some of the easiest foods Kara can gather are Purple Plumpuff Mushrooms which sprout from the ground on desert islands and Rustcap Mushrooms which she will be able to find growing on large tree trunks.

Avoid Coral Reefs

Although they may look pretty coral reefs are in fact dangerous and should be avoided. If your Bamboo Canoe bumps into a coral reef there is a possibility it will be damaged enough that it will disappear leaving you to drown. Even being near the coral reefs is perilous as they are inhabited by crabs that will try to jump on your Bamboo Canoe as you go by. If they are successful they will begin to eat your boat away.

Shooting Wild Animals with the Bow

Once you have acquired or crafted a bow you will be able to use it to kill wild animals for food and materials. If you hold the string on the bow taut for a few seconds a glowing light will appar around the two ends of the bow. This indicates that when you release the arrow your attack will be more powerful. Whenever possible maintain your aim for several seconds in order to make the attack as powerful as it can be and you won't have to use as many arrows to bring down your prey. When you successfully kill an animal you will be able to retrieve the arrow(s) you used. To craft a basic Hunter Bow you will need:

- One Wood

- Two Silk Threads
