Problem playing 2 player on wii u

I have the wii remote and nunchuck synced but cannot access second player in the game. When I put second figure on it says that there is to many characters on portal. I cannot control a character at all with wii remote and chuk. The remote works for Mario 3D world. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same problem. Changed all the batteries, resync'd the remotes and still no luck. Only works with game pad and for one person. Any help is appreciated.

First turn on the remonte, than place the second Skylander.
