Quick Reference Key - Operation and GUILT Strain Listing Operation Outlines GUILT Strategies Coming Soon Contact Information Legal and Credit ******************************************************************************** **********************************Introduction********************************** ******************************************************************************** Hello, and welcome to my Trauma Center guide! Before reading on, make sure you're reading this guide for the right reasons. If you need a walkthrough, hit backspace. This is not a how-to for how to pass operations. This is an outline of what goals you need to achieve to earn an S or XS on each operation. Any tips are geared solely toward. I DO include GUILT strategies, but only because I find that they are an aid in finishing operations quickly and earning the time bonus. Essentially, what I'm doing with this guide is outlining the special bonuses you need to achieve for each operation, and offering tips on how to do that. Most importantly for many players, THIS GUIDE IS NOT SPOILER FREE. I don't include spoilers for their own sake, but I'm not going to go to the effort of avoiding them, so consider yourself warned. ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ********************************Version History********************************* ******************************************************************************** v0.1 11/30/06 Began rough guide with basic formatting. Example: Vitals stayed above 60/70/75 On Easy, you earn the bonus if vitals stayed above 60. On Normal, you earn the bonus if vitals stayed above 70. On Hard, you earn this bonus if vitals stayed above 75. Got it? I hope so. If you don't, you probably shouldn't be allowed to hold a scalpel... even a fake one. Sometimes you can hit all of the Special Bonuses and still not get your S or XS rank. If you need to boost points, there are three ways to do it. More COOLs, more time, or more vitals. The actual point value of a COOL varies by action and operation, but a COOL always gets you more points than a GOOD would have. If you're meeting all the bonuses but not getting the rank you want, you might be getting too many GOODs. Vitals and time are easier to decipher. Five bonus points per second and point of vitality. You should always take time to max out vitals before bandaging your patient if you can do so while still earning any applicable Special Bonuses. Also, there are many operations where you can be "too skilled." Some operations award a special bonus for achieving a MAX CHAIN over a certain amount, but it's possible to complete the operation perfectly without achieving that chain! If you're really having problems XSing that operation you're ridiculously good at, check my tips to see if you need to actually slow down to achieve the required MAX CHAIN. ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************Quick Reference Key******************************* ******************************************************************************** If you need help on a specific operation and don't like scrolling through the whole FAQ, use your browser's "find" tool along with these operation titles to jump right to whatever's bugging you. Objective: Suture the lacerations and remove the glass fragments. Special Bonuses No mistakes.....................................................1000 Vitals stayed above 60/70/75.....................................500 Completed with 240/270/275 left (4:00/4:30/4:35).................300 3/4/6 COOL's earned..............................................200 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Not available When to raise vitals: Not available Specific tips: The only real advice I can give is to advance further into the game before attempting to S or XS this operation. It's not difficult, but you do need a great grasp on the controls before you can really zoom through it. Also, make sure you're getting cools when you remove the glass. Your cursor (I think) needs to be in the center circle of the pan Mary holds out for you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 1-2: Learning the Ropes Patient Noah Laurie is suffering from a tumor in his distal stomach. Objective: Remove the tumor. Special Bonuses No mistakes......................................................1000 Completed with 210/240/260 left..................................300 1/2/3 COOL's earned..............................................700 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Not available When to raise vitals: Not available, except when Mary tells you to. Specific tips: If you're having problems, advance the story. Once you're more familiar with the controls this should be a snap. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 1-3: A Farewell Patient Neil Spence is suffering from tumors in his pancreas. Objective: Remove the tumors. Special Bonuses No mistakes......................................................1000 Completed with 200/220/240 left (3:20/3:40/4:00).................300 1/2/3 COOL's earned..............................................700 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Not available When to raise vitals: You shouldn't need to unless you want a higher bonus, in which case you can wait until just before bandaging. Specific tips: This is pretty much the same as the previous operation, with a couple extra tumors. If you can handle that one, this will be a breeze. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 1-5: Singing the Blues Patient Elliot Cox is suffering from polyps on his trachea. Objective: Burn off the polyps with the surgical laser. Special Bonuses No mistakes......................................................1000 Fewer than 15/12/6 blood pools....................................500 Completed with 150/180/210 left (2:30/3:00/3:30)..................300 1/2/3 COOLs earned................................................200 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Not available When to raise vitals: Utilize the time between groups of polyps to get in a full injection. Then just max out before bandaging. Specific Tips: Just laser/drain/gel away, really. One thing that may trip you up is the 3 COOLs earned. You'll have get COOLs on the incision and bandage, which are easy, but also suturing your incision closed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 1-6: A Real Doctor Patient Sean West is suffering from tumors and inflammation in the small intestine. Objective: Eliminate the inflammation and excise the tumors. Special Bonuses No mistakes......................................................1000 Vitals stayed above 15/20/25......................................500 Completed with 120/180/210 left (2:00/3:00/3:30)..................300 2/2/3 COOLs earned................................................200 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Not available When to raise vitals: If they dip below 40, get them above. That'll give you breathing room to inject anti-inflammatory or perform one tumor removal. Also, right after removing the last tumor, you can get in two full injections if you're fast before Angie tells you to ultrasound the whole area. Specific Tips: This is pretty much your first real XS challenge. The requirement for the completion time bonus is downright brutal. Add that to the tendency for vitals to simply plummet, and you've got some work ahead of you. For the inflammations, make sure you use a full syringe of anti-inflammatory every time. Every time you dip into that blue liquid, you should neutralize two large inflammations, four small ones, or one large and two small. For the tumors, you'll just plain need to be fast. Get ultrasound/scalpel/drain/scalpel/forceps/gel down to one smooth motion. Keep in mind you probably will have to inject stabilizer between tumors. This one IS hard, so don't be afraid to develop your skills on later levels that are actually easier to earn an XS on. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 1-8: Life or Death Patient Omar Flynn is suffering from cardiac arrest and external and internal lacerations. Objective: Get a pulse, then suture the lacerations. Special Bonuses No mistakes......................................................1000 Completed with 200/225/240 left (3:20/3:45/4:00)..................300 5/8/10 COOLs earned ..........................................700 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Automatic When to raise vitals: Don't even worry about it. Specific Tips: Boost your points by getting COOLs on the removal of glass shards. Make the removal smooth, and make sure your cursor is in the center of the dish when you let go. Other than that, you've handled this kind of situation before. Also, seriously don't worry about vitals. They'll spike all over, but they'll be alright after defibrillating and will actually "max" at 30 after the last laceration is sutured. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation Z-1: From Overseas Patient A. Chambers is suffering from shattered arm bones and internal hemorrhaging. Objective: Clean up the hemorrhaging and repair the bone. Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 20/25/28...........................................300 No mistakes.......................................................700 Completed with 180/210/225 left (3:00/3:30/3:45)..................500 1/2/3 COOLs earned................................................500 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Not available When to raise vitals: Ignore them you've closed up the patient. Specific tips: Just memorize the shapes of the bone fragments and where you need to place them. You won't have much time to think it through when you're going for that XS. Remember, too, that you put the bones back in same order that you remove them. ******************************************************************************** ***********************************Chapter 2*********************************** ******************************************************************************** Operation 2-1: Dormant Ability Patient Jessie Pratt is suffering from blockage in his spleen. Objective: Remove all thrombi from the patient's spleen. Special Bonuses No mistakes.......................................................800 Less than 6/3/2 thrombi passed through............................700 Completed with 180/220/240 left (3:00/3:40/4:00)..................300 2/3/3 COOLs earned................................................200 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Automatic When to raise vitals: You don't need to. Specific Tips: When the second group of thrombi appears, you'll need to "stall" them before your Healing Touch kicks in. Use the ultrasound to slow them down and the forceps to stop them; don't worry about cutting or draining. Also, you can save time by not switching tools as much if you stop them every thrombus on screen, then scalpel them all, then drain them all, then gel them all. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 2-3: Striving for Asclepius No patient for this operation. Objective: Learn the Healing Touch. Special Bonuses Healing Touch Activated..........................................1200 2/3/4 Skilled Healing Touch passes................................550 3/2/1 Passable Healing Touch passes...............................250 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Uh...the whole time? Specific Tips: Yyyeah...this one's a little weird. All you need to do is make a bunch of stars on your TV. Also, that's no typo... the 250 point bonus actually does get easier as difficulty increases. That's because it's actually tied into the 550 point bonus. I don't know how the game decides what's "passable" and what's "skilled." Just do it right a bunch of times and you'll S/XS this. There's no time limit or anything; be as fast or as slow as you want. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 2-4: Awakening Patient Mario Kovac is suffering from multiple aneurysms in his large intestine. Objective: Remove and treat the aneurysms. Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 30/40/50...........................................500 No aneurysms ruptured.............................................700 Completed with 60/90/150 left.....................................200 4/6/8 COOLs earned................................................600 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Activate just before the last set of aneurysms appears. When to raise vitals: Between groups of aneurysms if there is a break. Specific tips: Priority number one is keeping the aneurysms from bursting. For the pairs, inject enough serum into one to make scalpel lines appear, then inject the second. Quickly cut/remove/drain/pinch and then inject more serum into the first aneurysm. Don't start suturing until all the aneurysms are gone. For the final group, you'll have your Healing Touch. The easiest way to get through these is to be quick. Inject them all completely, then cut them all, then remove them all, then drain them all, then forceps them all. You should be able to complete that much within your Healing Touch time since you're not using any time to reinject the aneurysms. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 2-6: Just Let Me Die Patient Linda Reid is suffering from lacerations in her lower right lung. Objective: Treat the lacerations. Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 8/10/20............................................600 Less than 3/2/1 hemorrhages.......................................200 Wound did not reopen..............................................200 4/6/7 COOLs earned...............................................1000 XStra Tips Healing Touch: You don't need it, but use it before your incision just for kicks and a ten second operation. When to raise vitals: Just before bandaging if you really want. Specific tips: This is a fun one. It's the first operation where you can actually be too good for an XS ranking. If you perform the operation perfectly and logically, treating the more serious lacerations first, your chain will be 19. How do you get a chain of 20? Treat one large laceration completely, then all of the small ones. Then just up her vitals until you notice more blood around the second large laceration. THEN you can drain it, getting more than the normal 3 OK's, increasing your chain to at least 17 so that your stitching, sterilizing, and bandaging bring your chain to 20. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 2-9: Please Let Me Live Patient Linda Reid is suffering from lacerations in her lung. Yes, again. Objective: Treat the lacerations (then kill the Kyriaki causing them.) Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 30/40/50...........................................500 Completed with 120/150/180 left (2:00/2:30/3:00)..................500 Wound did not reopen..............................................300 No mistakes.......................................................700 XStra Tips: Healing Touch: Probably most useful on the just before the large Kyriaki appears. When to raise vitals: If they get below 20, or while waiting to attack the large Kyriaki during your Healing Touch. Specific tips: If you've played much further you already have plenty of experience with Kyriaki. This one's pretty simple once you've practiced on the little buggers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 2-11: For the Greater Good Patient Elisa Chalke is suffering from mitral prolapse and regurgitation. (I don't get it either.) Objective: Replace her faulty heart valve with a synthetic one. Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 8/14/16............................................500 Fibrillation occurred less than 6/4/3 times.......................700 Completed with 200/220/240 left (3:20/3:40/4:00)..................400 No mistakes.......................................................400 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Just before your incision in the heart itself. When to raise vitals: Don't worry about them; just raise them at the end for the Vital Bonus if you want. Specific tips: Your roughest constraints here are the MAX CHAIN and fibrillation bonuses. Your Healing Touch will help avoid the fibrillation; you'll move through the valve replacement so quickly that the heart won't have a chance to act up. The MAX CHAIN bonus requires that you do well on the sutures for the valve and the actual heart. For the valve, treat it like a vertical incision, just a very wide one. For the heart, start and end your suturing at the "tips" of the incision, and just be fast and not too inaccurate. (Thanks to Aaron "rmz" Ramsey for his guide's tip on the valve suture, and to JustinHayabusa for his suggestion on the heart suture.) Also, it may help if you know that you don't have to lift the scalpel between the three incisions. You can just keep the button held down. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation Z-2: Miracle GUILT victim is suffering from unusual tumors in the large intestine. Objective: Excise the tumors. Special Bonuses Tumors did not regenerate.........................................600 MAX CHAIN over 50/60/100..........................................400 No mistakes.......................................................600 Completed with 130/160/180 left (2:10/2:40/3:00)..................400 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Automatic When to raise vitals: Max them before lasering off the polyps from the second round of tumors. Vitals actually skyrocket just from burning off the polyps from the last set, but only once the tumors are removed. Specific tips: This is another operation where too much speed can deny you your chain bonus. You should always get to a chain of 100 if you blaze through the tumors until the set of four appears. If your vitals are maxed, you can complete the whole tumor removal without injecting stabilizer and shave some seconds off your time. For the last set, drain and cut two tumors. Then, burn off some polyps and apply gel before moving on the other two tumors. This will allow your chain to reach 100 by the time you finish. Then just remove the tumors, take care of the remaining polyps, and the rest is business as usual. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ******************************************************************************** ***********************************Chapter 3*********************************** ******************************************************************************** Operation 3-2: GUILT Patient Jack Reyes is infected with Kyriaki. Objective: Destroy the Kyriaki. Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 30/40/50..........................................1000 Completed with 120/150/180 left (2:00/2:30/3:00)..................500 No mistakes.......................................................500 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Activate right before cleaning up after the set of two small Kyriaki. When to raise vitals: While waiting for Kyriaki to make more lacerations, and between hits on the large Kyriaki. Specific Tips: This is a stage where the MAX CHAIN requirement on Hard means that you have to wait for damage to occur to the patient, so that you can repair it to increase your chain. The perfect chain you earn if the Kyriaki don't create extra lacerations is 48. Just ignore vitals until the two small Kyriaki show up. Suture their initial lacerations, then just pump vitals until they each make another one. That'll get you from 48 to 50 and earn you the special bonus. Use your Healing Touch right before cleaning up from those two. You can kill the big Kyriaki within the timeframe of the Healing Touch while injecting stabilizer after every hit you make with the laser. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 3-4: Something Precious Patient Amy Chase is suffering from the Deftera strain in her stomach and lungs. Objective: Remove the Deftera. Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 30/50/60...........................................800 Completed with 80/120/150 left (1:20/2:00/2:30)...................500 No mistakes.......................................................700 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Activate JUST after draining a pair of Deftera for the third time, during the procedure in the lungs. That way you can excise the tumor before it does too much damage, and maybe even make progress on the remaining Deftera pair. When to raise vitals: ALL THE TIME! If you're not buring tumors or attacking Deftera, keep those vitals up. They will PLUMMET once the Deftera pair up into a tumor. Specific Tips: Yet again, you need to sacrifice time in order to get a high enough chain to earn the MAX CHAIN bonus. You SHOULD hit 60 if you open Amy up immediately, and then just pump her vitals until each of the first large tumors creates a smaller one. Then burn them all with the laser and pump vitals again while you wait for the Deftera to show up. Then you should be able to just burn the tumors that show up while you wait for the Deftera to combine. Make sure you can fire off a Healing Touch on the first try. It's most most useful between draining and the appearance of a tumor, but it's only a large enough window of time for just one shot at a Healing Touch. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 3-6: An Explosive Patient Patient is a time bomb. Objective: Dismantle the bomb. Special Bonuses No Healing Touch.................................................1000 Core reached faster than 120/90/80 (3:00/3:30/3:40)...............700 Did not approach MISS limit.......................................300 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Avoid to earn Special Bonus Specific tips: First, make sure you can open the cover and adjust the voltage with at least 4:45 remaining. To earn all of the bonuses you have to get to the core with at least 3:40 left on the clock. To destroy all the panels within the tight time limit, you'll need a fast and steady hand and a good eye. Pay attention to the intervals between the shifts in blinking panels. You should be able to fire off five panels between shifts if there are easy panels to hit. Just go fast, but carefully. Most importantly, you CAN make a single mistake when removing the panels. Doing so will not disqualify you from any special bonuses, but two mistakes will dig you a fiery grave. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 3-8: Caduceus on a Plane Patient Chi McGinley is suffering from edema of the lungs. Objective: Drain the fluid from the lungs. Special Bonuses No mistakes......................................................1000 Operation completed before 7/5/5 jolts............................500 Inflammation remained below 10/6/3................................300 Completed with 120/180/210 left (2:00/3:00/3:30)..................200 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Activate just after a jolt when vitals are getting under 50 or 60. When to raise vitals: Anytime the plane is about to jolt and you haven't found a spot to drain fluid yet, or during your Healing Touch after you've drained a few spots of fluid. Specific Tips: Memorize the "hiding spots" of the fluids. They appear randomly, one at a time, but you have to be pretty accurate with the ultrasound and with the speed you need, you'd better know EXACTLY where you might find a spot instead of wasting time where one will never appear. Also, get ridiculously quick with the scalpel/drain/gel maneuver. Nothing feels as good as pulling that off a half-second before the plane starts jolting like crazy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 3-10: Pandora's Box Patient Reuben is suffering from an unknown strain of GUILT. (Triti) Objective: Remove the Triti. No Healing Touch.................................................1000 less than 13/8/2 membranes multiplied.............................500 Completed with 120/180/210 left (2:00/3:00/3:30)..................300 No mistakes.......................................................200 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Avoid to earn Special Bonus When to raise vitals: If you're fast enough, you won't need to. Specific tips: Just follow the guidelines for removing Triti in the GUILT tips section. [This section is forthcoming in a future update.] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation Z-3: Pursuit Patient H. Makurami is suffering from external trauma and possibly internal injuries as well. Objective: Seal the lacerations and internal injuries, with the aid of your trusty penlight. Special Bonuses Flash used 3/2/1 times or less....................................800 MAX CHAIN over 20/30/35...........................................400 No mistakes.......................................................300 Completed with 150/180/200 left (2:30/3:00/3:30)..................500 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Activate before making your incision. When to raise vitals: MAX THEM OUT before activating your Healing Touch. Specific tips: If you can even pass this on Hard, you're well on your way to an XS. Vitals fall ridiculously fast from the patient's injuries, which is why you want to activate Healing Touch before venturing inside the patient. It should give you time to deal with all of the internal injuries. The big trick to this is memorizing most of the wound placement on the third set of injuries. You only get one flash, so if you can memorize where some of the smaller lacerations are, you can use that time to treat the embedded glass and the large laceration. Also, if you're really quick and place the penlight right, you can treat a couple of smaller lacerations before it dies. ******************************************************************************** ***********************************Chapter 3*********************************** ******************************************************************************** Operation 4-2: Race for the Cure Patient Joe Faison is suffering from the Tetarti strain. Objective: Destroy the immature Tetarti and take a sample for analysis. Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 5/10/12...........................................1000 Toxins formed fewer than 10/5/3 times.............................500 Completed with 80/120/140 left (1:20/2:00/2:20)...................300 No mistakes.......................................................200 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Activate just before incision; it can carry you through the entire procedure if you're fast. When to raise vitals: At the very end if you feel you need points. Specific tips: This isn't one that should pose any problems. Just peform the procedure without messing up; your Healing Touch should allow you to kill the Tetarti fast enough to prevent toxins from forming. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 4-4: Stepping Up Patient Greg Kasal is suffering from the Tetarti strain. Objective: Destroy the Tetarti Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 10/15/18...........................................500 9/6/3 or fewer diverticula formed.................................500 Completed with 60/150/180 left (1:00/1:30/2:00)...................400 No mistakes.......................................................600 No mistakes........................................................600 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Just before the appearance or reappearance of Tetarti. It'll get you through two rounds of serum injection; which two you use it for is up to you. When to raise vitals: You don't really need to worry about them, but you have time between each round of Tetarti for a full injection. Specific tips: For tips on Tetarti, see the GUILT tip section. [This section is forthcoming in a future update.] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 4-6: The First Step Patient R. Anderson is suffering from the Pempti strain. Objective: Get enough data for Victor to develop a treatment. Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 10/15/17............................................??? No mistakes........................................................??? Finished 9/10/10 of Victor's orders................................??? XStra Tips Healing Touch: Activate before starting the blue/yellow injection. This will give you a decent amount of time to do what you need to do before the core moves around on you. When to raise vitals: When Victor tells you to after injecting the white serum for the first time. Specific tips: Yeah. I know. Victor only gives you 9 orders. That's if carry them all out immediately. The trick to earning the bonus for 10 orders is to let the patient's vitals drop below 70 before injecting the first white serum. Victor will tell you to get his vitals up. Do so, and voila, you've finished the 10th order. (Credit goes to Afropuff from the GameFAQs forums for the solution to that conundrum.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 4-7: Medical Research Patient is a puzzle. Objective: Solve the puzzle. Special Bonuses Finished faster than 20/10/5.....................................2500 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Not available. Specific tips: Memorize the puzzle and do it really fast. That's all. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 4-8: The Next Step Patient R. Anderson is suffering from the Pempti strain...still. Objective: Defeat the Pempti. Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 30/50/70...........................................600 No mistakes.......................................................600 Completed with 180/195/210 left (3:00/3:15/3:30)..................800 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Activate whenever you'd like; it's not too much of a help on this one, but it'll save you a few seconds. When to raise vitals: After lasering tumors and before injecting nanomachines. Specific tips: This shouldn't be too much trouble. Injecting serum and lasering tumors is really all there is to this one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 4-9: Progress Patient is a puzzle. Objective: Solve the puzzles. Special Bonuses Finished faster than 30/20/15....................................2500 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Not available. Specific tips: You really only have to memorize the second puzzle; you get all the time in the world to refresh yourself on the first one because Angie is talking to you right at the start of the "operation." Just know 'em and do 'em. Fast. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation 4-10: Prolonged Struggle Patient R. Anderson is STILL suffering from the Pempti strain. Objective: Destroy the Pempti. Special Bonuses MAX CHAIN over 50/70/100..........................................600 Completed with 80/120/140 left (1:20/2:00/2:20)...................800 No mistakes.......................................................600 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Save it for when vitals dip really low and you don't have time to get them up between attacks. When to raise vitals: Every chance you get, because you won't get many. Specific Tips: I've managed to get all of the bonuses on Hard and only get an S. I recommend letting one or two red things make some lacerations for you to get a COOL on, but no more than that! If vitals aren't over 70, don't let red things get by. On Easy and Normal, you may need to let a lot of lacerations occur, but on Hard, so much will happen anyway that you'll probably get the points you need without letting the patient get too damaged. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation Z-4: Transplant GUILT victim is in need of a kidney transplant. Objective: Remove the tumors to make room for the new kidney, then insert it. Special Bonuses Tumors did not regenerate.........................................800 Finished before vasoconstrictor expired...........................200 No mistakes.......................................................700 Completed with 210/225/230 left (3:30/3:45/3:50)..................300 XStra Tips Healing Touch: Just after you incision. You'll pretty much need the ability to excise the tumors on Hard without killing the patient. When to raise vitals: Make sure they're at least 35 before making any of your cuts for your blood vessel attachments. Specific tips: You'll have to be very fast on this one. Just keep the vitals up and make good use of your Healing Touch and you should get the XS if you're speedy enough. ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ********************************GUILT Strategies******************************** ******************************************************************************** If a certain strain is keeping you from that XS rank, maybe you could use some strategy tips specific to that GUILT. I didn't include GUILT tips in the operations since it would get really repetitive really quickly. But there are tips here if Deftera's pissing you off or Angie's "clue" to Triti's pattern isn't helping you out. (Don't feel bad. Her "clue" doesn't help anyone.) Keep in mind that these strategies probably won't work as well in X Missions. First Strain - Kyriaki KYRIAKISTRAIN Kryiaki are parasites that cause lacerations from inside the body. Use the ultrasound to locate them within an organ. The scalpel can be used to cut them out so that you can hit with the laser a few times to kill them. Any time you operate on Kyriaki, you'll face a "boss" Kyriaki that will take more hits than the smaller ones and will actually retreat back under the surface of the organ after you hit it. Whereas the smaller Kryiaki will make single small lacerations when they appear, the large one makes three big lacerations that do a lot more damage to vitals. Instead cutting the "boss" out and lasering it to death, you cut it and shoot it, cut and shoot it, etc, until it's dead. Also, each time you face this strain, before they appear you'll have some small lacerations to suture as well as some larger ones to drain and pinch before suturing. Kryiaki attack in a simple pattern, if you want to call it that. You'll dealing with up to three smaller Kyriaki at a time. Once a group appears, that's all you'll fight until you defeat them and heal any wounds that occurred during the fight. New Kyriaki won't show up until after you've sutured all lacerations and applied gel to all the smaller cuts. Generally, you'll want to suture all the wounds and then inject some stabilizer if you need it before applying the gel. On Easy and Normal, once you get good at fighting this strain, you most likely won't have to worry about vitals dropping fast enough to kill your patient. Just try to keep vitals above 50 or so. If speed is your main goal, you can trying killing any onscreen Kyriaki all at once, then repairing the wounds they cause. If you're playing on Hard and you need to worry about keeping the patient alive, just try to keep vitals around 50 or so and suture any wounds before attacking the Kyriaki. Also, make SURE vitals are at least at 50 before letting any new Kyriaki appear, especially the "boss." Vitals will take a big hit when it appears with its three huge lacerations. Second Strain - Deftera DEFTERASTRAIN Deftera are tumors that simulate movement by replicating their DNA into adjacent cells, and come in two equal and opposite kinds, Type A and Type B. As the Deftera "move" they create they create large tumors in the tissue which will spawn their own small polyps. [I've heard that you can apply anti-bacterial gel to block Deftera's path so that you can "herd" them together or keep like types apart. I haven't had to use this strategy myself; it's apparently not necessary. I'm going to experiment with the idea, though, and develop my strategy for this FAQ based on whether I find the gel to be an aid or not.] Third Strain - Triti TRITISTRAIN Triti is membrane that can spread itself around an entire organ and encase it completely. The membrane is protected from direct removal by thorns that hold each triangular piece in place at each of its corners. Destroying Triti is unfortunately not a simple matter of removing the thorns and then the membranes. That's because each time you take a piece out, it will replicate itself if it can. The basic flow of a Triti operation will alternate between removing thorns and removing pieces of the membrane. Sometimes a thorn will dissolve into gas when you pinch it with the forceps; if this happens, drain it immediately before the gas spreads and turns into a new piece of membrane. The real trick to Triti is knowing the pattern by which is reproduces. (Credit goes to rmz for his guide where I found the pattern. rmz gives credit to Ryn for the information.) Angie tells you "it looks like it spreads if two membranes are next to each other!" This is misleading and wrong and means that Angie is a filthy liar. There are two situations in which Triti will replicate. The first is triggered by your removal of any piece of membrane. If you remove a piece and there are two thorns next to each other anywhere with room next to them for another piece of membrane, it will spread there. The second situation is when a piece of membrane is isolated without any other membranes touching it. If a thorn regenerates before you remove the isolated membrane, more pieces will sprout up on every side of the lone membrane. To avoid the first replication situation, you'll spend every Triti operation alternating between removing thorns and removing membrane pieces. Note that Triti won't spread at all past the edge of the organ. You can leave those thorns in place until you need to remove the membranes there. Just remove enough thorns that no two are together and can replicate, and then remove any membranes that you can. You will have to work to avoid creating the second situation before you have to. To avoid the second situation, work from one side to another treating the GUILT as a whole instead of as parts. Some operations will give you more than one distinct group of membranes; if there's space between, treat them as more than one entity. Work on "pushing" the GUILT into one side or corner. You'll be giving it less and less room to spread, making things easier for you. When you get down to two pieces by themselves, STOP. Wait for the two pieces to regrow all of their thorns, then quickly remove all four and then the two membranes. If you don't wait for all four thorns to regenerate before pulling out one of the membranes, you run the risk of a thorn regenerating before you can pull out the second piece and then you've got three or for pieces to worry about instead of just two. Fourth Strain - Tetarti TETARTISTRAIN Tetarti are a group of parasites that release gaseous toxins, as well as having the ability to create toxic diverticula. Diverticula are sores that grow until they too release gaseous toxin. Tetarti come in three flavors, and to defeat them you have inject each with a serum specially designed for that flavor. When beginning a Tetarti operation, there will already be diverticula to remove. You'll have to inject the appropriate serum into each sore. Removing them is the same as with anything else; scalpel, forceps, new membrane. It's safest to stop all the sores at once before cutting any out, but if you're fast enough, you can inject the serum and remove them each separately before any of them burst on you. The actual Tetarti themselves will begin to appear after you cut out all of the diverticula. They'll appear in unison and you'll see their coloring for a few moments until they start moving around. Once they're moving you have to have either a good memory or go by the toxins they release as they move around, since each flavor releses its own color of gas. (In later operations you'll have ONLY the gas to go by; you won't be able to distinguish colors on the actual Tetarti at all.) To damage the Tetarti, you have to inject each flavor with the appropriate serum before they retreat back under the surface. They tend to alter the direction of their movement rather abrubtly, making it very easy to miss and inject serum into the patient, which counts as a miss. For this singular reason, Tetarti is the strain of GUILT I loathe more than any other, since you need to get through these operations without a mistake to get S rankings. All you can do is develop a very steady hand to inject the Tetarti without missing. If you end up injecting a Tetarti body with the incorrect serum, all of the bodies that haven't yet been injected with the correct serum will produce diverticula for you to deal with. Fifth Strain - Pempti PEMPTISTRAIN Pempti is a fluid driven by a regenerative core. Over time it spreads throughout an entire organ, suffocating it from the inside. There are several plot-driven operations where you're not actually attacking Pempti; rather, your operation serves to collect data which furthers your colleagues' understanding of the strain and helps to eventually develop a remedy. Those operations explain themselves, really, and this section will focus only on your actual fights with Pempti. When fighting Pempti, you want to keep your laser centered on the core as much as possible. While the core will be hiding an invulnerable most of the time, if your laser is shooting at you'll do damage to its attack bits as they are created. There are three attack patterns that Pempti will throw at you. The first is pink bits that come out one at a time, and create a laceration if they are not destroyed in time. They disappear after the laceration whether you kill it or not. The second attack is five blue bits that form a V formation and drag the liquid Pempti through the whole organ and back. As the liquid recedes, small tumors are left behind that must burned and then coated with gel. The third attack is five spiralling blue bits that simply drop vitals. To attack the pink bits, keep your laser centered on the core and follow the pink bits keeping the laser trained on them. They appear one a time, so if your hand is steady enough, you can avoid letting any of them cause damage. To attack the V-formation blue bits, aim at the core and then when the bits appear and get into formation, pick a side and keep your laser centered between the two bits on that side. You'll damage them simultaneously and you may have time to kill the center bit before tumors are created. When the liquid core turns gray you will not be able to damage the blue bits. Also, if you wait too long to kill the remaining two or three bits, the ones you've already killed will regenerate. Kill the bits and destroy the leftover tumors in between later attacks. To attack the spiralling blue bits, keep your laser centered on the core and as they appear, you should damage them all rather heavily before they even start to spread out. Once they start their spiralling movement, you'll have to move the laser with them and kill one at a time. Any time you see the core come out of hiding, shoot it. Any time you see attack bits start to form, shoot them. Any small chance you get to raise vitals, take it. Pempti fights are always a long struggle and a single mistake can start a domino effect where vitals are dropping and bits are attacking and you end up too far behind to be able to catch up. Just keep preventing the Pempti from doing too much damage, and eventually you'll come out on top. Sixth Strain - Paraskevi PARASKEVISTRAIN Paraskevi is a parasitic worm that burrows its way through organs until it reaches the inside of the heart. It then destroys the vital organ, killing its victim. You'll attack Paraskevi by lasering its tail to stop its movement, then cutting it with your scalpel. That Paraskevi will then divide into TWO worms, until eventually the worms it splits into are too small to cut and you can just remove them with your forceps. Paraskevi MUST NOT be moving when you try to remove it or it will count as a miss. Your first priority with Paraskevi will always be stopping any moving worms. This will prevent them from being able to burrow deeper into the patient, which would either prolong the operation and lower your score, or flat out kill your patient. You'll want to suture the lacerations caused by splitting Paraskevi as soon as you can, as well. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS attack the SMALLEST Paraskevi you can see. It's much easier to deal with large Paraskevi since the worms get much faster when they're smaller. Cut the smallest worm until you get to a size you can extract, then remove them and attack the next smallest worm still in the patient. Paraskevi are a unique strain in that the most stressful part of any operation involving them tends to be towards the beginning. Say there are four "levels" to the Paraskevi you're fighting; that is, it can split four times before you remove it. You'll split it once and have two; split one of those and have three; split one those and have four; then split one of those and have five. This would be your absolute most difficult part, since once you remove the worms you can, you'll never have to have that many on screen at the same time again. Right before you remove your first Paraskevi is the most crucial part of the operation. To keep vitals up, take a breather when you've only got two or three worms to keep track of and inject stabilizer when none are moving. As you get down to smaller and faster worms, you won't have a lot of time to keep vitals up since your first priority is stopping and removing the Paraskevi. Seventh Strain - Savato SAVATOSTRAIN Savato is an almost spiderlike GUILT that builds a web around the heart to steal the energy of its heartbeat, and thus the life of its victim. A Savato operation will consist of several phases. In the first phase, you will destroy Savato's web. In the second phase, you'll burn away its protective coating and then cut at it with your scalpel. In the final phase, you'll inject it with a specially designed serum. To destroy Savato's web, simply cut it with your scalpel. Unfortunately, this will actually ruin your scalpel and you'll have to wait for your assistant to replace it before cutting another strand. When waiting for a scalpel you can just keep the A button held down; you'll start cutting again the instant your scalpel can be used. Always keep your cursor over an intersection of the webs, as this way you'll damage each strand at the same time. Every so often Savato will spin a new strand of web and create some little purple baby Savatos. Laser the babies only when you're waiting for a scalpel; your first and only real priority is to destroy the entire web. The next phase of Savato requires you to keep a steady laser shot trained on the offending GUILT. Savato will also be attacking the patient at this point, by creating three smaller lacerations or one larger one out of which babies will pour. Burn the babies IMMEDIATELY or they can swarm together and make a larger blue creature that will plummet your patient's vitals. Only start lasering the actual Savato if your laser is fully ready. Just keep it on Savato as much as possible; if it moves too quickly for you to follow, let go of the laser and start it up again when your aim improves. If you concentrate enough fire within a certain timeframe you'll get an OK and its coating will dissolve a little bit. Once its coating is gone, give it a quick slash with your scalpel. Eventually the time will come to inject the serum instead of cutting the GUILT. Once you inject it, Savato will go crazy creating six lacerations at a time over and over again. It'll take two Healing Touches for your aim to be true enough to inject a final load of serum and kill the GUILT. (Don't worry; the plot always somehow provides a way for you to use two.) ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************** **********************************Coming Soon********************************** ******************************************************************************** This, clearly, is only a prelminary version of the guide.
