Making character energy last longer

My son just got the Skylanders swap force game. He is very upset that the characters seem to run out of energy very quickly and he has to wait until they rebuild their energy. Does this simply mean that he is not very good at the game or is there a trick to making the energy last longer?

Don't look at energy as a duration of time, it's a matter of endurance, it's health, as he gets attacked it depletes and his character is "defeated" This being a children's game they have opted to not "kill" the character, rather they tell you they are tired and in need of rest. However, they will not be restored to play until you finish the level you are currently in and return to home.

A way of building your helth is to collect exp. And hopefully the skylander will get more health every time they level up. Another way to prevent taking damage is to upgrade them until is is fully upgraded. This should help the game seem easier

It would. And "food" is supposed to help with gaining health. (Wait till your son is better at the game before you do Mesmeralda. A friend of mine went through 7 characters during the level!)

My sons were also running out of energy very quickly, and he was quite upset about it aswell..

I checked his difficulty and sure enough it was set to "nightmare" mode I then changed it back to easy, which also has made the energy last a lot longer!
